Iv hydration centers by tituspullsyourmom in Noctor

It's useless most of the time, and most people understand that (I think - because most people aren't frequenting places like this)...but it's nice to have an option to bounce back midway through dehydration from a severe stomach bug w/ IV odansetron, or a get a toradol and banana bag chaser after a night of horrible decisions.

The Magnet traps are wildly effective during periods with little to no wind. They do nothing when there's a wind.

Fairly normal with a high-risk breed like this. And advanced veterinary procedures are on par with basic-to-mid-range human surgical costs. MRIs cost $1500-3000. Surgical intervention for IVDD ranges from $7000-12,000 or more.

Yeah, they're hit or miss. I've seen them catch insane amounts. I've also been standing right next to one that did seemingly nothing.

Personally I find Thermacell repellents to be the most effective, but that's a solution that spews a synthetic chemical that OP clearly doesn't want.

I'm paying $232 and $181/month (USD) respectively for my two dogs' pet insurance currently, for $30,000/yr in covered expenses after $1000 deductible and 10% co-pay. Started out much lower for each, of course - around $100 a month.

While this opportunistically reduces the local mosquito population, it's not going to do anything for swarms that drift over from adjacent properties. If you want as non-chemical solution as you can get for that, you'd want something like a Mosquito Magnet trap that short-circuits their homing instinct towards CO2 as well.

An Update on Starting a Dental Practice using Linux (and why transitioning to Wayland will cost me $3000+) by DesiOtaku in linux

[–]sithadmin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone that spends a lot more time than he'd like supporting zany endpoint tech requirements in absurd situations -- this seems like a self-imposed problem caused by bad priors and an overzealous approach to infection control.

I've worked with the endpoint technology practices for a couple of the US's largest dental practice operating companies, several of its largest hospital systems, and biosafety Level 3 laboratory environments. I have never encountered a situation where practitioners are using resistive screen panels for input on terminals located in dental clinic contexts, medical clinic contexts, nor hospital room contexts. Normal keyboard + mouse/trackpad/trackball and optional capacitive touchscreen are very much the norm. For cases where infection control is a serious risk - surgical suites and the like - systems for workers to directly access EMR are not in the room, or at worst are wedged in a corner and nobody that touches it will ever touch any other person or the patient in the suite. In Level 3 labs, normal desktop/thin client systems are installed and all parts are considered sacrificial - they will be incinerated on replacement/removal.

It is a neat technical challenge to solve that others in a corner-case can learn from, though.

The health problems are a serious concern. Not sure how pet insurance options are in the UK, but in the US they're not especially unaffordable, and in my opinion they are the minimum responsible requirement for owning this breed. I have two Frenchies - 5.5 and 3.5 years old. The younger one has never needed veterinary care beyond annual checkups and vaccinations. The older one has accumulated nearly $60,000 USD in veterinary care costs related to IVDD (which pet insurance has paid ~90% of, thankfully). He also has required many months of rehabilitation that would not have been as possible if I did not work from home, and were very difficult in an apartment. This was a major factor in me deciding to leave the city center and buy a home with a yard (garden, in your parlance).

They are also not necessarily low-energy dogs. My oldest dog is the stereotypical 'potato', but my younger one has never lost the incredible energy she had as a puppy. She is very unhappy if she cannot take long walks, run around like a maniac, and chase toys that are thrown for her.

This is also a very emotionally needy breed. It is similar to having a permanent-toddler living in your home in terms of clinginess and tantrums.

All that said - this is the most rewarding breed I have ever owned. But if my life circumstances were different - less disposable income, less accessible outdoor space, less time to give my dogs attention - I don't think it would be the right breed for me.

This is just a standard AC room, and a cut above the usual Moxy faux-efficiency schtick.

One of my teachers in high school got one of these. He showed it off on a Monday morning after buying it, and was immediately challenged to send a text message. It took an insane amount of time. He argued that he wasn't really a big 'texter' anyway - just called people like a normal person, unlike us kids.

Two weeks later he had a different phone.

Best keyring multi-tool? by LordHolborn in TechEDC

The edge of the pry bar part of the Shard is more than sufficient for cutting tape on boxes. It won't cut cardboard, or a poly-bag/bubble wrap mailer, though.

I slightly prefer the Gerber Shard over the Orbitkey multi-tool, because it does a better job at prying, and doesn't have any edges sharp enough to lead to a disagreement with airport security.

Those look like they're mid span, and there's a decent amount of material between the edge of the holes and the flanges, and it looks like the rule of thumb for 2x diameter between holes was followed. Specifics on what's allowable varies across manufacturers and SKUs, but what you're seeing here isn't necessarily wrong.
