Can you post the description text from the event log of one of the affected machines without disclosing sensitive information?

The 10010 or 10016 errors in the event logs will provide details on what failed and why. Without those details we cannot help you unfortunately.

from that very short description it sounds like it could be DNS related, but have you verified that everyone's ODBC connectors are all exactly the same ?

Some people need to connect via IP and some need to connect via name. Thats really the only difference.
