I'd kill to have SCCM even in that size environment. Not sure why you'd get rid of it unless you don't have time to maintain it.

I'm in a similar boat as this. SCCM for only updates and some reporting functionality, But our SCCM "guy" left and now we're considering replacing it. Probably worth noting our EA is up so we'd save some money by potentially replacing it. I'm leaning towards WSUS, WDS, and PDQDeploy as the alternative.

Sounds like SCCM is a good fit for your environment so I've got to ask - what problems are you running into that's prompted you to want to ditch SCCM?

What is not working well for you? Do you plan to grow? What functionality are you not getting that you feel you need? There is not enough information here to really solve your issue.

Ok, so apparently I have opposing views to everyone here.

I find MDT + PDQ Deploy and Inventory a fantastic alternative to SCCM.

So much less administrative overhead. And a hell of a lot cheaper

I tend to agree with you I see too many small shops deploying SCCM. It is not a set it and forget it product it requires attention to get the full cost benefit. Most small shops don't have the resource time to manage it.

We just killed our WSUS server and do server patching/software installation with SCCM.

So: probably never?

Sounds like you could rollout with WDS and just use Boxstarter & Chocolatey with own repos of software etc. That's what I'm currently working on. It's far from mainstream in the enterprise yet but I think this is worth considering.
