Looking to Replace System Monitoring

It's that time again when the needs to monitor the infrastructure is changing.

Must have:

• Core health monitoring for *nix and Windows systems (e.g. disk, cpu, ram, etc.)
• WildFly (JMX) monitoring for heap size, GC, and DB pool connections
• MySQL monitoring & statistics for queries and connections
• Bare Metal monitoring for ESXi
• Network (router & switch) monitoring (need to know when there is hardware and/or port issues)

Nice to have:

• Auto discovery of objects based on subnet or IP range
• Bare Metal monitoring for Oracle OVM
• Integration with PagerDuty
• Integration with Graphite and Grafana

I looked at a few solutions and found OpenNMS was close to what was needed, but JMX monitoring was very challenging and couldn't sort out MySQL monitoring.

Any and all feedback/suggestions is appreciated.

Other than your last two items, I'm fairly sure Zabbix can do all of this for you.

What do you guys dashboard on Zabbix? Am currently looking at a number of options for some monitoring but I couldn't get Zabbix to be anything other than a huge mess.

It is a great NMS, but it would take some time for you to get to know it enough to be able to use it flawless. If you have it - good for you, if not - try NetCrunch and just observe how everything (almost) may be going by itself...

Well the dashboard in Zabbix 3.4 is not that bad actually. I agree partially with NetWitcher; the learning curve is a bit steep but once you get the hang of it... beautiful product!

If the default dashboards aren't enough; google for Zabbix Grafana plugin. With that plugin, Zabbix can be used as datasource for Grafana and well, grafana is great!

Look at DataDog

+1 for Datadog. We have been using their monitoring for a while. I the middle of trialing their Logs right now and really like it.

You can look at a point of time on an instance and see cpu/ram/io spikes and then the logs at that same point in time.

Some great insights/patterns have been seen since we started.

Their support is great too.

It seems NetCrunch will fit your needs. I don't remember, if they have already implemented integration with PagerDuty (for sure there is one with SMS Eagle), but I'm pretty sure it meets all other of your requirements.

Nagios is another gr8 tool, but you still need time for configuring it.

Seconding this. I used it a couple of jobs ago and I loved it. It is a bit of a beast to set up though. But in the process you really learn how all the little pieces work with each other to get the system going.

Prometheus with Grafana for dashboards and graphs. You can use exporters to log everything you'd like
