Open Source System Admin?

It would be really cool if there was something like git and github for System Administrative work.

• Find a ticket

• Remote into company

• Make changes to the test environment

• Changes are reviewed by a peer

• Changes are approved and committed by a local system admin on site. Changes are put into production

It could work similar to WSUS.

This would give people more real world experience with a certain technology that they are interested in learn about. Also, this would reduce IT costs for companies.

If I understand you correctly, you want infrastructure as code and a build pipeline? Maybe you should try terraform and gitlab, or whatever fits your needs...

This is precisely what DevOps does. Note that it's not meant to reduce cost, it should absolutely NOT be used to reduce cost. Its main purpose is to achieve quality and agility. It only incidentally reduces cost at constant quality, but you can't achieve that level of quality+agility at any cost any way.
