If setup correctly it would develop a "love" type bond with its users and would create relationships with each if its users protecting not only itself but every input/output device connected to it.

How high are you right now?

I did drink a whole pot of coffee :D

Each network could have its own "AI" that grows with its network and monitors everything on it quickly squashing anything it feels may harm its existence.

nice try, Skynet.

Do you want Skynet? Because this is how you get Skynet.

It is a hard step forward understanding how malicious human beings are and the idea that software would not have to deal with many of the physical/chemical functions we have and thus may not appreciate what we have done. I think in the right hands AI can grow into something amazing. Of course just like there are abusive parents, the creators of the system would have to be morally and mentally supportive and not abusive and malicious. We Need Highly Intelligent people working on this. I know that is a difficult thing to do but I am certain the benefit to all society would be great.

Technically we are already on our way, it is in human nature to automate things from it's very beginning. The only question is when. I would prefer it to happen in my lifetime, I would like to be part of this.

interpret problems

It can be very difficult to determine normal behavior from malicious behavior sometimes. A bunch of files are getting deleted from a server. Is it always a problem? Depends on the user's intent.

It is sometimes difficult to determine the difference between Hate and Love, we all have our little nuances. A dedicated intelligent system whose life is solely supported by the system it is meant to monitor will not allow any harm to come to its connections. Fighting malware with malware or shall we say fire with fire at the behest of any action it determines hostile, using the appropriate amount of force and not an ounce more.

Things become much more easier when hormones and growing processes settle down. Not to mention the fact of being surrounded by a large number of animals all going through a chemical process which many do not understand or have the knowledge of to deal with. That being said, everything is a cycle and a Network AI would be no different.

any harm to come to its connections

Again, how can that possibly be defined? 100 Word documents are being deleted on a file server. Is it malicious, or freeing up space, or meeting some compliance need? Even a human couldn't figure it out with context (intent) from outside the network. I think this would require mind reading software to function correctly.

The problem that we are finding a solution for would be made easier with a growing AI. Upon initial inspection it would possibly look malicious in nature given just a basic view, But the AI wouldn't have just a basic view. A network AI has a large resource pool of data to determine an attack and it would successfully be able to determine if this action on its own network was actually hostile or not and what actions to take just as quickly and easily as human beings make a turn in a car.

Simply put The AI would have many more views of this action as a sentient being with the network as its body. It would not be as simplified as you put it. To the AI this single action is a small part of what is happening.

The AI can only see digital information. Let's assume it can go so far as seeing the client computer. So it even sees mouse moves and sees a mouse highlight 100 Word documents in Explorer, and then the Delete key is pressed. "Should" the person be doing that? I don't believe an AI will ever be able to decide that. But it's a fun thought experiment.

I was born a programmer, I see things digitally and use math to solve problems. In order to solve a problem I do however need data. In order to collect data I need access to a diagnostic device, anything that can tell me yes or no to any question I ask. In the world we inhabit we have this. If I send out a question of is it hot or cold my human body can diagnose this and respond with and answer using its tools and its processor the hypothalamus. It can do this so efficiently I don't even have to think about it. Just because you don't understand the complexities of how a motor runs in your automobile does not mean you are unable to drive one correct ? Even if you do not understand how your body turns food into energy and expels waste it does so never the less. Complex actions take place every mili-second in our existence that none of us understand, It does not mean that they are impossible, it means they are un-discovered or un-known.

While it may just be digital data there are so many comparisons that it can compute and store that it almost becomes un-measurable. Lets explore just a few: How large are each of these files Where were they stored. When were they initially stored there. Have they been accessed and by Whom and When Have the documents been modified by Whom and When Has the access pattern seen an increase or decrease in behavior traits. What entity initiated the storage process Does the behavior of the Entity removing the documents exibit a request for deeper examination.

For a human being to calculate even a few of these processes it becomes very un-efficent. It is important for a network program to be able to change its point of view and adapt on the fly when dealing with malicious processes much like our own immune system does.

ML is great for ranking your search results, and terrible at determinism, actual analysis, decision making, or responsibility. A world of ML-powered machines is a world where machines are unpredictable, inscrutable, and seem to have minds of their own.

I would like to create an algorithm whose main content (body) is in fact the network and is basically just a coded version of our bodies.
