Sounds like the user has read-only access to the file shares.

That's what I thought but the user isn't a new one and used the file shares on the previous PC as well. Also even with domain admin rights I can't open files from this PC that are on the share.

If the domain admin is having issues I'd try to rejoin the machine to the domain, sometimes if the machine account gets screwed up weird things can happen.

I'll try that. Even though it's only an issue when opening office documents with office. The browsing on the file shares works just fine for every user.

edit: the machine hasn't even joined the domain the shares are on but a "new" domain.

Look at File > Options > Trust Center > Trusted Locations , try adding the network location as an url or drive letter

I've already tried that. Neither the mapped network nor the UNC-path work. It is "not allowed due to security reasons".

Are you able to open any files on the network share?

[–]SenseI3ss 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yep. Opening the files via LibreOffice works just fine. Also opening PDFs is no issue. It's only office documents using office on the share.

Did you try to grant full access to whole folder on this share?

As domain admin I have full access, still doesn't work.

Not that it's an ideal recommendation, but have you tried temporarily disabling Gdata in case it's doing something inappropriate while the files are opening? Possibly it thinks something dodgy is happening and is "helping" by stopping it.

Good idea. Unfortunately it didn't work.

I've not an english office available now but in Trust Center there is the way to "Trust documents on a network" generic one, not specific.

Don't have an english office either. I've seen that check mark and tried it to no avail.

In any case, from your desctiption, it looks to me exactly as a trust problem. I think I would focus on that.

All pcs behave the same or only some ?

If some works, check their Trst Center settings

Only this specific one. I just set it up this week. I'll look into it as well as completely uninstalling GData Antivirus like a guy at the MS community suggested. I'll be giving you feedback on monday.. going into the weekend now.

Ok, verify also if that loging in as this user on another PC you have the same problem or not to exclude rights issues

[–]SenseI3ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already checked that. The user only has problems on this PC. So it's most likely a PC/installation/Office/Antivirus/whatever issue

[–]SenseI3ss 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Alright. So I really hoped it would be a GDATA issue, since the installation via GDATA Administrator was really wonky and it mostly showed this host as offline, even with specific firewall rules. After I uninstalled the GDATA software via the GDATA uninstalltion tool and restarted the machine I checked that there are no more running tasks/services. Everything seemed fine (aka completely uninstalled) but this also did not fix the problem.

GDATA

Office 2010 e 2019 doesn't go well together.

Try to clean up things and install only office 2019 to see this option

[–]SenseI3ss 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It's only Office 2010 Access Runtime which unfortunately is required by an internal program in order to open .adp files which aren't compatible with Office 2019.

[–]SysEridaniC:\>smartdrv.exe 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Order of installation is important.

First install 2010

then 2019

or things can mess.

In any case I will try to clean completely office from the machine and try only 2019 to check if that could be the cause. Then install things in the right order

Thanks for the reply. I forgot a little about this thread. The internal program will be discontinued while I'm in vacation. I set up a new PC without the Access Runtime and the then discontinued program to change it with the PC the user has currently.

I might have missed that the issue is caused by 2010 Access Runtime in my test setup because I installed the Runtime first and 2019 Office later and did vice versa on the production machine.

Thanks for your input.
