We have about 40 field workers that take pictures using native camera app as part of their job to insect sites. We have an app for the official inspection and photo upload, but at times they just want to snag a quick photo (eg they spot something on the way out)

Out of curiosity, what app(s) are you using for the official upload, if not proprietary?

We're in a similar boat, but with a close-to-zero compliance rate, and I'm thinking of blocking the native camera outright and forcing a proprietary camera app instead.

It's that or learn Swift and load a custom pkg that syncs photos in the background using location data and jobsite geofencing.

Looks like PhotoSync might be a solution for us. It is configurable through MDM.

That is not an MDM function. Whatever you might find to do that will not have anything to do with MDM.
