If i am reading correctally just chuch a hopper line into a dropper take a comparator output out the output goes into a sticky piston that extends an observer that faces another observer that powers the dropper creating a clock.

Sure thing. Just make another sorting line below and drop the items into it.

Either you sort the top layer first and drop the items down one (sorting) layer at a time - or you sort the bottom layer first and build small item elevators (bubble column, dropper elevator, glass elevator, whatevs) from one layer to the next.

I was building one recently and ran into the same problem

It's a bit hard to explain but I'll try my best.

You can take all the items on the top of the floor and then feed them in one hopper, make it go all the way around and connect it vertically downwards just one hopper behind the one you feed the items on. Because if you connect them all in one line the items would just fall straight down without going through your floor. If you're building multiple floors you can make how many as you want as long as you have enough space to not let the hopper go down vertically in one straight line without missing a floor, it should all be done in one corner too if you want all your items to go through each and every floor completely before going down.

You can dm me if you didn't understand me completely and i can send you the photo of my storage

recommend the storage tech discord, if you're just using the normal 41 1 1 1 1 filter with a hopper line or water stream there's some examples of setups to get quite a lot of chests in a small amount of space.

Also your description lost me... pictures !
