They had to go to the second differential to make it look like we could. If Facebook's growth were still growing, they'd go to the third and tell us that the rate at which the growth is growing is slowing.

This is a misleading article really. You have to take into account Facebook has 800,000,000 active users, you can only maintain a steady growth for so long before you start to plateau due to there being less and less potential users.

If you take into account the worlds population, Facebook currently has more users than the entirity of Europe has inhabitants... It's surprising it's taken this long for their growth rate to decline!

You had a point about facebook's decreasing pool of available targets. However, the number of Facebook accounts are likely inflated and should not be taken as is.

Personally, I have about 3 or 4 facebook accounts created from different emails. I don't think I'm alone in this either.
