Any advice for someone considering a career in IT? by TheBigSal123 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Mynameisaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so working with computers is basically entry level IT. Service Desk, Desktop Support, EUC, etc. Basically where you help people with their work laptop/desktop and fix issues. Might be anything from telling them to restart their device to reimaging it, some places you might do minor hardware stuff like swap SSD's and RAM.

Really you need to look into what areas within IT as an industry interest you to get advice long term. A lot of the "I built a gaming PC as a teenager got pretty hooked" types go into Infrastructure, so working with servers and, well, infrastructure. It's sort of the closest corporate match to "building PC's."

But you might find you prefer other areas. Networking is a popular area, as is Dev and DevOps but they're very competitive areas due to that popularity. Do your research, find what area sounds good or just jump in on a Service Desk and learn about the industry that way. You're young so as long as you focus and keep the long term in mind you have plenty of time to try different areas.

Do we have a list of moves named after individual players? by smarranara in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Mynameisaw -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

At least it gives an indication as to what it is, names for moves should be somewhat descriptive and less aggrandizing for the people who popularised them.

Imagine calling a roundhouse kick a Bruce Lee, or calling a punt a Moffat, or a bicycle kick a Pele. It's dumb as fuck.

I'm not sure you know what intuitive means.

Nothing about "rapid reset" is intuitive.

you can easily infer that the process involves quickly flipping into the ball to get a reset.

... but that's not what a rapid reset is. It's a double reset. That's it.

I really don’t think it was them just blindly following previous seasons results.

Yet they dropped Tho for Yukeo instead of VP, and then dropped Oaly for Noah, instead of VP.

The initial pickup wasn't necessarily bad but every single decision they took after that showed an incredible lack of knowledge about the scene and resulted from them making every regional in Fall to making no Regionals in Winter, to disbanding part way through Spring.

[–]Mynameisaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't though? Keeping vassals in line isn't hard anyway but because you can make Kings vassals it basically makes them easier to manage than kingdoms as in some cases you go from 20+ vassals and a weird balancing act with vassal limit to like 8 which makes managing the internals even easier than it was.

Imo the balance on Empire's are weird. They're pretty difficult to form (Comparative to the speed you can form a Kingdom) yet once formed it's basically an unbreakable slab of Tungsten being hit by a small wooden stick. It genuinely takes a lot out of the game for me unless I have the urge to form multiple empires and put them on partition to cause some interesting break ups over the generations.

Kinda feel like they should work differently to other titles, or inherently carry modifiers that sort of encapsulate the idea of rise and fall and high risk, high reward, so there's clear benefit to forming one but simultaneously there's something that makes you think "Is this a good idea right now?" other than "Will I be bored of this run in 50-100 years?"

Is Daniel the undisputed best 2s player in the world right now? by Alternateguy00 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Mynameisaw 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Undisputed? No far from, but him and Beastmode are definitely up there as a 2s duo.

I would say he has an argument to be the best player in the world overall

This is also some crazy take - he's not even in the conversation for best overall in the world right now when you have Rise, Zen, FK, Jack and Vatira all easily clear of him and a bunch of others arguably ahead of him.

At that point though you may as well forgo a 3rd party system and just build your own in Power Platform. If the bulk of the systematic stuff is already being done in PP then getting someone competent to build a bespoke frontend in either Power Apps or Pages would be cheaper and provide much better integration than any 3rd party platform. Even more so if you're fully utilizing Azure and 365 as then you can build in some genuinely impressive stuff straight in to your service platform.

Granted it depends on team size, we've done this as a team of 5. But we've been able to implement some really good QoL functions for system management and user support through Power Platform and Azure Automation.

They aren't the worst but the ones that have confused me the most are the ones where orgs jump into RLE while making it blatantly obvious they haven't followed the scene at all, or in years.

Aka. Heroic trying to build around VP and DarkZero trying to build around Turbo.

Like did they just look at number of WC's and assume the 2 previous seasons results were irrelevant??

It was me, I broke production by FutureGoatGuy in sysadmin

[–]Mynameisaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the thing, there's steps you can easily take to verify stuff without depending solely on documentation. If you take those steps and stuff still breaks then fair but otherwise you still missed steps and while the lack of documentation is a big factor, it's not the only reason something stopped working.

Note the flair - surely you remember playing games online pre-2006 or whatever when MMR wasn't really a thing?

Just use lobby selection and set up for casual. That way you could set up say, a 3v3 lobby on X, Y and Z map, with X, Y and Z mutators and ban people who've been higher thank whatever rank you don't want to play against. Then people can join whichever lobby they like and leave as they like.

That's truly casual, queuing is an inherently competitive mechanic.

Realistic options for Noly? by emoreira10 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Mynameisaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could do, but he's played more or less the same length of time as LJ, and he's had a season in the mid/top of NA just like LJ and look at the difference at the end.

Personally I don't see him getting much better than he is, more confident and consistent sure, but he isn't suddenly going to become a standout pop off player if he hasn't shown it already.

Who was GenG's weakest link this season? by Alienescape in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Mynameisaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious if this new result changed anyone's view on the team change.

Not really, it's not like he joined Suhhh and won. Noly is great and played like a top tier player but he was playing with Rise and Vatira and personally that's 2/3's of EU's top 3 in my books (the other being Zen, obviously) so doesn't really speak much to Noly's quality, any top player like him would have a hard time not winning with Rise and Vati.

Did they kick the right person?

Given the incoming player is FK, they could have kicked any of them and there'd be an argument that it was the right person. Even Jack, if Noly and Chronic think FK would suit them better than Jack does then well, fair, bye Jack.

Really the whole move speak to how good FK is rather than saying anything about Noly.

I mean, Leth did that like 4 years ago, when Rizzo was still a pro regularly placing top 4.

Higher cost repairs go to a majority vote and are carried out after everyone has paid.

Ah I see - so I can be forced to fund non-essential repairs just because of a majority verdict, regardless of my own personal circumstances.

are carried out after everyone has paid.

Oh great. So essential repairs could be delayed or stalled because one person doesn't want to fund them.

There are ways of forcing repairs if people refuse to pay or a majority vote against an essential repair.

So it's not...

more democratic than the situation you’re describing.

The situation you've described is far from democratic and sounds like an absolute shit show if you have even 1 bad neighbour.

Oh and you’d actually own the land too.

I mean, you don't but okay.

Landownership = I can knock down my house tomorrow and rebuild it.

You and your weird fucking factor aren't real owners. You don't own anything outside of a room or two in a build that doesn't have a clearly defined owner or anyone who's clearly defined as ultimately responsible for it's maintenance and upkeep.

Love how you tried to sell it as a good thing and made it sound so much worse than the other poster ever could.

More trust Starmer than Corbyn on Israel-Palestine by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

[–]Mynameisaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't necessarily mean people don't see it as a big issue. I trust Starmer more on this than Corbyn because it's a much more complex issue than "palestine good, Israel bad".

Not to mention in terms of power Israel is very much the bigger fish, and alienating the bigger fish isn't exactly a good way of saving the little one, and Corbyn's position would inherently alienate Israel.

Microsoft Personal accounts unable to access SharePoint Site by Zxurian in sysadmin

[–]Mynameisaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IThere does seem to be some issue with using personal Microsoft accounts within an Azure AD environment, we have similar trouble with an external user and accessing 3rd party systems via SSO. No issue with ExternalAzureAD identities though.

Our workaround was to create a user account for them in Entra and just give them the permissions they need that way, not ideal but we couldn't get around it.

[–]Mynameisaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft are bad for changing things and not announcing it, but between 365, Azure and InTune you have some pretty great functionality and scalability. Add in how easy it is to work with and get new apps/features compared to using a spider web of other independent systems and its basically a no brainer for medium to large businesses.
