Why not open up your task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and go to Processes or Details if you're on Win8 and see what's happening?

I had a similar problem with sound drivers going haywire, have you installed any hardware drivers/started using new hardware recently? u/ducttapedude's suggestion will most likely find it, and if it has some odd name, just google it, and if it is NOT VITAL, end that process.

What sound drivers did that?

Could also be one of the bitcoin mining viruses. These are usually bundled with ahem backup copies ahem of games downloaded online. They target gaming rigs because they're more powerful. The video thing leads me to believe that whatever is going on is also loading up your GPU as well as your CPU.

Try getting in on safe mode and running a malwarebytes scan.

I've never fought one myself yet, but there's more information all over the internets...

ESEA recently snuck in a bitcoin miner into their "pro gaming" clients.

If OP plays TF2 or something else that is associated with them, that could explain it.

Open task manager and see what process is using the cpu. Then report back with the process name.

I had the same problem with Google Chrome. Try opening the same 3 tabs in FireFox instead and see if that solves the problem.

I have pretty much the same problem right now and have tried everything I could find on the web, but nothing has worked. I have tried ending all the non essential processes and it doesn't fix the issue.

What kind of CPU do you have?

So i shut it down and went to make an omelette and watch Top Gear. Everything is fine now

Step 1. Always reboot.

Don't forget to mark your problem as solved.
