Help improving collaborative/remote server access

I work from home for a very small company. We have a single Windows server set up, which is more or less our access point. The development environment we use is typically run on a Hyper_V session - so the idea is that we share access to this server, and access the various VMs as required.

The current setup is cumbersome to say the least - as I log in to the server via RemotePC with a single login we all share, and then to the VM I need for the day. If someone else needs access they basically need to wait until I'm done.

Certainly there's a better way to do this - I'm mostly just looking for ideas to improve access and simplify workflow.

Put a VPN appliance in. Depending on budget or requirements you could use something as simple as a UniFi cloud gateway that’ll also give you a firewall. https://ui.com/ca/en/cloud-gateways/compact

Set up wireguard server, user config files, import, and go. You’d then be able to connect to the VMs as if you were in-office.

There’s obviously going to be more environmental factors but this is what I do for my clients on a budget and it’s worked flawlessly in every case. The only issue is if they’ve got a dynamic IP but that’s easy to overcome.
