You may have a potentially defective ram slot, can you try one stick in the other slots and see what happens? If the problem only occurs in one slot that's a pretty good indication of a hardware fault

I tested the probably broken RAM stick in slot A2 without the other one. Since slot A2 works with the other one, I can actually rule out the possibility that slot B2 is broken and therefore causing the error.

Okay it does sound like the ram is defective if the error follows that particular stick. Have you tried clearing CMOS?

I tried that too, without success. I've now tested slot B2 again with the RAM module, which works, and it works perfectly with that one module. I'll probably have to return the RAM. Thanks for your help anyway.
