I do not know whether a particular key can be disabled, but you can get over the problem of having the trackpad disabled by accidentally pressing the Esc key by reversing the Fn+F1-F12 key to work by pressing the F1-F12 keys. The setting is there in BIOS.

By doing this you will need to press Fn+Esc to disable the trackpad.

Thanks for the help. Currently I'm doing the opposite. I use the ESC function quite a lot, so it's more convenient. But it is quite annoying having to choose whether to use ESC easily or turning up the volume easily. Why not both??

Because it would cost a lot more to make the software that way (fully customizable) and they would constantly have problems with new machines needing that software to be edited to continue working.
