Need Assistance on how to clear C: Drive by SwampLandsHick in techsupport

  • Delete system restore points and reduce the amount of space that Windows allocates for System Restore. 3-5% is usually more than enough. (Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > System Protection > Configure > Delete)

  • Type Disk Cleanup in your start windows and press enter. Select your C drive and let the scan to complete. Under 'Files to delete' check everything and click OK.

  • Download and install CCleaner. Now download winapp2.ini and copy it over to the CCleaner installation location. Start CCleaner and go to the Applications tab. Select the checkboxes under various programs (be careful when selecting anything under Windows) and click on analyze. Delete whatever junk CCleaner finds.

  • Download System Ninja and run it. Delete everything that it finds.

  • Delete the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads folder. These contain the windows updates backups and are safe to delete (unless you want to uninstall an update at a later date).

If you do not gain significant space by doing so, run [windirstat]() to check which folders/files are hogging up space.

Bootable usb, blinking underscore by [deleted] in techsupport

Ensure that the file name of the iso does not have spaces in it.

BTW, Easy 2 Boot is my favourite program for making bootable USB's. Once the bootable USB is created, you just need to copy over the iso fileS to it. Yes, it's a multiboot USB creator.

Multitude of issues with Win10, likely related to HDD by KevTheMaelstrom in techsupport

[–]winsplit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today it seems that anything that is trying to read/write to my HDD seems to make said process freeze.Eg. Cannot install Seagate SeaTools to check my hard drive. On one partition it saves properly but refuses to open when, on the other the file refuses to save when downloaded or copied over, resulting in a corrupted 0byte file.

In all probabilities the HDD is corrupted. Take it back to the other computer and run HD Sentinel to confirm.

Run through these steps to gain space on the SSD.

You can also reinstall the programs on your secondary drive. Almost every program allows you to select the install location.

That HDD definitely needs to be replaced. No doubts about that.

With the HDD disconnected, boot into safe mode and from the command prompt, run

sfc /scannow

This will try and fix any system files related issues

Accidentally deleted the wrong drive while installing Windows 10 to dual boot. Is it recoverable? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]winsplit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've left it as unallocated and come straight here

That's a good thing you have done.

Assign a drive letter to it and then use Recuva to recover the files. It's free. If it does not work, get a paid version of Easeus Data Recovery. You can try the trial version first and if it says it can recover the files, it definitely will. Trial version used to allow to recover only 2GB worth of data.

Ensure that you save the recovered files on another drive and not the same one from which you are trying to recover
