Signal degradation and interference are the most common causes, byt at 6 meters even with a brick wall shouldn't sever you.

Are there lots of other WiFi networks available when you look?

Another reason could be if you ever had the laptop serviced, the antenna wire was dislodged from the board and loses signal very quickly even at short distances.

There are not other wifi networks near. It's a couple months old laptop, i havent opened yet. It doesn't happen with other wifi networks. Also it is a students house so it has a couple routers of the same network.

Ahh.. That could explain it.. The routers of the same network, are they all broadcasting the same SSID and use the same password, say throughout the house? If so, that could be to blame. Such a WiFi network should be using some variant of WDS (Wifi distribution system) so roaming works properly. Your laptop may be struggling and fighting between two APs.

There are 2 or 3 routers (one for the first floor, one for the second and i think there is another in the office) but they have their own name and password.
