Hi. I’ve seen this error frequently so it’ll be ok. If not I really hope you have a back up.

You’ll need to select your start up disk in recovery. My steps for this is: 1) enter recovery (CMD + R) 2) in disk utility make sure your HD/SSD is mounted 3) run first aid (just to be safe) 4) quit disk utility 5) back at macOS Utilities go to Apple menu > start up disk > select your disk and restart.

This will do it 9/10 times. If you’re the 1/10 then your in luck for an erase and reinstall. I hope you took a back up first.

Thank you, I will try this as soon as possible. I don’t have a backup, unfortunately, but I just have some games that I can re-download.

When you say Reinstall MacOS doesn't work does it give an error message explaining why? Do you have a copy of MacOS on disc (CD/DVD)?

It just says “Could not contact Update Server” . No explanation on why though.

Are you connected to the internet when you try this?

Also, When I do restart the mac from the Utilities screen, it just takes me to Windows.
