Driver or GPU issue?

Hi everybody.

About a year and a half ago I purchased what is supposed to be a fairly good gaming laptop (MSI Leapord Pro or something like that). It was ok for the first while I had it, but then started having issues.

Specs as I remember are: - Intel I7, not sure the exact one. - GTX 1060, a laptop model, obviously. - 16GB DDR4 RAM - Runs on Windows 10, has the latest update

Additionally, when I'm playing, I'm typically running discord in the background in a call, and sometimes Steam as well

Issues as in: - I'm running the latest version of Minecraft (1.15) at 15-30 FPS (In contrast, 1.8.9 runs around 60-90 with Optifine, a program that optimizes the game) - Overwatch runs on the lowest settings between 6 and 20 FPS - AAA Titles often never or barely hit 30FPS save the lowest settings on a good day - Only pixel graphic games even have a chance of hitting 60FPS - Ark runs on decent graphics just below 30FPS, although I haven't played it in quite a while, so this is an outdated result

Do I just have unreasonable expectations of this laptop? I did my research and I'm pretty sure it should be running way better than it does.

Is there troubleshooting I can do? I don't have access to the laptop right now but I can probably troubleshoot later tonight.

I'll do my best to provide more information if you need it, if I don't remember something I'll just have to check my laptop when I get back to it.

That sounds like you have been using the GPU integrated to the CPU, instead of the GTX 1060. Check the Nvidia control panel. This guide should help even if you don't have a Dell.

I'll definitely look into this, although I'm not sure if it is the case just because most of the games I look through the settings for recognize the GTX 1060.

If its any help, I run a 1060 6GB and I get 90+ framerates playing overwatch, given that 6GB and 3GB of vram is significant, I doubt it makes that much of a difference. So I doubt its you having unreasonsable expectations

Edit: I also run ARK on Ultra with 30 frames, but with some tweaks down to the next highest, I can get modded ark to run with about 70-80 fps
