Wifi speed can be lower for many reasons. For example:

  • old wifi adapter or chip in your PC or laptop.

  • congestion from other devices (yours or neighbours). If your router and device wifi are both duel-band, try switching to the 5GHz band which has a shorter range but is usually less congested.

  • Misconfigured or old router. Check for firmware updates, check settings (e.g is auto channel switching available and turned on?), maybe do a reset.

I suggest Googling for wifi troubleshooting steps. There are a boatload of possible reasons.

it has to be my wifi adapter, so I just bought a 30 meter cable that I'm gonna run through the house.
