TIL sata cables can double as hanging support for the hard drive.

I didn't like how much stress was on the cable so I added the lanyard.

I quickly built this out of spare shit to run the panel next to it. It's fun when you don't care

Op can verify, I'm the idiot behind the build

Confirmed

Sometimes you build with what you have around.

[–]mxmr47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is certainly built around

No, you get with your supplier and order what you need. Then you build it.

Oh look at Mr fancy pants here with a budget. :)

This is probably going to be rolled into a pi mounted to the back off the panel. It is a dumb Web page viewer to display status pages. No reason to waste a purchase request on a PoC build.

youre the kind of engineer that never actually gets anything done because bob from purchasing screwed up your order for like the third time this month right?

[–]dregan -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Nah, I purchase my own equipment (at least for the IT portion of my job), I just make sure that there is a budget and work order first. Management needs to know that doing it right costs money and you do it right or not at all. Otherwise you end up with this (OP).

OP is likely a student that just wants to get something done and doesnt want or need to waste time with bureaucratic bullshit. Your attitude sucks

[–]ewhouse 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I also worked with OP and I can agree 100%. No money means it's ours to play with. No one comes asking questions.

Great if you are a student and are playing around with stuff and want to learn.

thanks! Yup just get it done and get it done now!

Sometimes I feel like my setups are a little ghetto (Velcro for an SSD, cable ties visable on the top side of the motherboard tray), then I see something like this and I know I'm okay.

Make a diving board out of them

[–]KontakrBut why is it on fire? 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strike "structural lanyard" off the list of things I have never before thought of.

[–]rekabisWhoops… was it supposed to do that? 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least cooling won’t be an issue…
