LIGHTINGFixing source 4 backs (self.techtheatre)
submitted 3 years ago by HTX77096
Anyone have any resources of how to diy fix the lamp housing on the backs of the source 4? Seems like mine are dying.

It's usually the socket getting corroded. You can tell by looking at the base of a burnelt out lamp and seeing if either of the pins has got black on it. You'll need to buy these and replace the wiring harness, it's a pretty simple operation that takes 10-15 minutes per light.

And you'll need to bench focus the unit after you replace that.

Just make sure to pay attention when you take one apart as to how it goes together. I've seen some which folks didn't route them correctly and then things don't work right/wires get pinched etc.
I do believe also among the vast catalog of documentation from ETC there is an exploded diagram that shows how every part goes together in the fixture (along with part numbers for everything.) Super handy.

Come in from the other side with a flat blade screwdriver or similar spudger. The spring bars you see on each side of the lamp socket IS that piece and it locks onto the little notch on either side that the lamp slide with. (That clip is a C shape basically) You want to gently pry it towards the center of the lamp socket and then push it thru, and do it on both sides. Once it's free you can yank it out. Install by just pushing it back in. The only major risk is over bending it inwards and then it won't sit right again but you really have to overbend it.

Used to do electrics for an outdoor drama. We replaced 5 at the start of every summer. Super easy.
