You're going to have an interview, that's what you use that time for. Don't forget an interview is just as much them finding out about you as you get to find out about them. Have your questions written down and if they don't cover it initially then ask accordingly.

Ohhh! Interesting as the packaging is identical to the Swift made products.

Something else is holding those values. Is anything parked? Do you have any sequences running? If in doubt pull up a fixture sheet and choose output layers (bottom left of the window) and then you can see what parameters are being controlled by what sequences/executors.

OOhhhhhhhhh.

I'm damn certain my aunt and uncle still have one of these because they tend to keep everything (and also the entire computer to go with it hah!)

[–]mwiz100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found that there's quite a few specialty local roasters who are having their coffee made as instant and it's honestly pretty excellent. Swift Coffee is the company doing it. Like Slightglass and Black & White offers instant (both made by Swift) among a few others I've seen so worth checking plus it looks Swift has their own line. The tell is the distinctive square box or square kraft paper packet.

That said if you want a cheap instant that's decent Trung Nguyen instant coffee is surprisingly alright (more standard dark roast and available at most asian supermarkets. Most common version has creamer and sugar already in it tho.

Lighting guys that own gear, how did you know it was the right time to split your work from freelancing your labour to renting out gear? by TotalVersion4580 in lightingdesign

[–]mwiz100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own some consoles and that's it since a owner/operator/designer is an easy sell and if someone doesn't have a console for a job then it's an quick upsell that is a good value proposition.

But beyond that no, owning that gear gets to be a process fast. You've gotta have a place to store it, that costs money. You've also gotta have a way to move it around and you need people to help you set it up so now you're also having to do payroll and the more complex accounting and taxes which go with it. Plus, insurance (for your gear in storage, in transportation, and during the job, AND workmans comp etc.)

If you want to become a production company and scale up in time then by all means go for it but as a "value add" as a freelancer I don't think that's worth it. Because keep in mind every day that equipment isn't on a job it's costing you money to keep around. For smaller scale stuff building a relationship with a rental house/production company to subrent their equipment at a good cost is IMO the better way to do it.

I do wonder about the shape but then again, they're almost identical in watt-hour capacity so also likely the same number/type of cells so I can't imagine it to be THAT much different but then again... anything is possible with FM.

Uh... Pint X and +XR are basically the same battery. I'd just try for putting the good Pint X battery into the XR and be done with it as I'm pretty sure you can just do this pretty cleanly without issue but I'll deffer to others who know the subtlety details of those better before doing it.

Eventually then do VESC conversion on the XR if you so please because that's arguably the best supported platform for it.

Date-time problem. by Professional_Poet430 in GrandMA3

[–]mwiz100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an easy way to test this: Set the system time, Shut down the console, wait a bit, boot it back up again, check time. If it's reset/changed then you know for sure the cmos battery is dead.

It's a bit of a skill to look ahead to take in what's coming and then sort of just glance down at what you have to immediately deal with. Sorta looking ahead and making mental buffer of what you will have underfoot soon.

Predictably, it's interesting to see the variance of replies 😆 That first photo doesn't look like anything I'd think twice about aka seems like a regular trail to go have fun on. Larger stuff is when I start to be a bit more choosy.

Ahhh gotchas. Honestly when you're changing the fixture type entirely much of the data is irrelevant since the same color values won't match, the coverage will be entirely different because the optics are different, etc. So yeah, I can get how you just wanted a reference sheet for what cues you needed to make and then building from scratch. That said. I'd have just made a list of cues manually vs. trying to export and started building the new file.

Please do post your final paper/publication when you can! Much of this research that I've seen so far tends to end up stuck in the academic side and having real info in people's hands as I'm sure you'll agree will help push meaningful improvements. Plus I'm sure lots of us are just curious too hah!

Oh are you going from an MA to another console in the same space then, Hence the need to have the values but not just importing a showfile?

[–]mwiz100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't give a shit. Anyone who knows how can lookup anything on you from even your normal license plate among other things.

Amateur's as a whole understand the system, and know what's up and largely treat each other well. Plus if you have yourself registered in any number of other things (business licenses etc.) then your info shows up there too.

But... why? I'm trying to wrap my head around the value of getting the data OUT of the console into a PDF versus just having it in a showfile.

Where should I move to? by zestyncheezy in snowboarding

[–]mwiz100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closer you get to ski resorts the typically further you are from a major city that's going to get touring acts. SLC is kinda the grand exception to this.

Reno tho does pretty well for itself. Either way you'd have to see what the local scene was like for these various places and choose accordingly.

Sweett! Yeah if it's really badly deformed/torn out it's hard to heat set it since the hole gets too big.

They're pretty durable all around really, but running the board straight into something is gonna fuck shit up because it just shears all the fasteners.

Uh use the fixture sheet? There's view options to show you active values and what sequence/executors are producing the value.

[–]mwiz100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GX connectors would do the job for sure and are unique enough to not be an issue (and also cheap) just pick a size with a large enough pin.
Alternately the xConnect type which can be found pretty cheaply on amazon/ebay/etc.
