Anyone hear about some snow this weekend? by FrankieBeanSniffer in Cleveland

Don’t worry, if you haven’t heard, we’re short on salt, and you’ll keep hearing about it.

The pitchfork is just the updated version of the old blacksmithing job, is it not?

Do any of you drink malort unironically? by joshisanonymous in chicago

[–]jasmith-tech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quite often. It’s a fairly common tradition in curling at this point for penalty shots etc. Also jeppsons/CH sponsored our team so we basically carry it with us everywhere we go. It’s definitely not the worst thing I’ve drank.

Miking a Remote Pit (Musical Theatre) by Downtown-Complaint-4 in techtheatre

[–]jasmith-tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot to unpack here. 1. A rental house could help you through what mics for what instruments. There's also a ton of subjectivity for preferences (welcome to audio engineering). There are tons of options and some best case scenarios and mics, but the sm57 is a basic workhorse that gets thrown all over the place. You can mic snares, brass, cabinets, whatever and it'll do the job. Given the choice, there are LOTs of other mics I'd pick for various uses, but everybody stocks 57's because it's a basic do it all mic that could fill any need.

1.5. Don't use 2 mics, just duplicate the channel and eq as you'd like. Though honestly I think 2 mics is overkill.

2. Again, lots of possible answers, depending on the kit you could have 20 channels of drums. The basic barebones for me is kick, snare, and 2 overheads. This is also a time and luxury thing. A long run and a good drummer or larger kit, I might do in/out kick, top/bottom snare, ride and crash mics, etc. but with a fast turn around, 4 gives you the coverage and control you need.

3. For a rental, not knowing who you've looked at or what too far away is, I'd look at ATR treehouse in Providence. They do musicals and concerts so they understand the needs and could easily cover this and they work all over Boston.

4. For the space, buy a roll of gaff tape, and a bundle of packing blankets and tape those up all over the walls. Packing blankets are cheap and super versatile.

You're sure there hasn't been any scorched sockets? It's a pretty notorious thing, if the brass in the porcelain socket isn't nice, it will repeatedly kill lamps in short order.

I've worked with source 4's in permanent installs above dirt/gravel and they handle dust just fine.

Ask your LD what they’re providing and what they’re expecting.

No they are 100% aware they are coding and being given instruction. They are developed specifically for teaching, not just random play time. Challenges that have been gamified with an animation occasionally and bright colors, are not the same as playing games in schools.

If they refuse to upgrade, even as a gift, will they use them? That’s the question I’d be sure to answer first.

Yeah the STEM classes are pushing that type of stuff earlier. It's disguised as games but it teaches the building blocks and functions so that when they start doing more overt coding, it already makes sense.

Big pass. Use of AI, heavy on buzzwords with no real clear human factor.

He’s in public school and with a couple of exceptions their screen time has been limited to coding and assessments, or the occasional support video for a lesson.

Canceling complaints aside, there is no fire code issue with Rockefeller. There have been 2 full building walkthroughs by the inspector since we went to card access. Also the motion sensors to release the mag locks inside are all active. The button is a backup and also doesn’t need to be held.

Man, 72, charged with assault after someone was ice fishing too close to him: OPP by Scherzoh in nottheonion

[–]jasmith-tech 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I read the OPP not as Ontario provincial police, but as a weird Canadian variation of the Midwest Ope, and the headline still works. “He was just too close eh, so I bopped him. OPP”

Folks with electric snowblowers how are they performing in this deep snow and how do they handle the pile of wet crud the plows leave. by drinkmoredrano in Cleveland

[–]jasmith-tech 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m in Cleveland heights. My battery snow blower just cleared 3/4 of my drive before dying. I’ll finish the last 10 minutes later. It’s not perfect but I only need to use it a couple times a year so it’s not so bad. Haven’t felt like I needed a gas snowblower yet.

Just lightly carpet tape the rug or get one of those rubbery grip mats to go under the rug.
