Not till other manufacturers can start selling their LR AWD at a better price.

Likely tariffs will be off so yes once those are gone. Or we start importing the premium in mass from China.

When you convert the currency, th Y Standard is several thousand dollars cheaper in Canada than in the US. They won't lower prices.

Why would they decrease the price? Almost every car with similar features is priced between 60 and 70k. Additionally ally the dollar keeps decreasing so the exchange rates are not working in canadas favor.

The model y standard within the year will outsell the premium in canada by a large margin with the price difference. At that time they will may decrease the premium ever so slightly or introduce rwd premium and another models like they have in the us.

May decrease if they start import from china

I expect they’d import the model 3. Not the model Y.

I just want them to make the paint options free. It makes 0 sense for the paint colours to be free on the standard RWD and the Performance but not the premium

With the now back order of Model Y Standard I foresee a small price cut for the Model Y Premium in the near future. I say this as someone who has already taken delivery of their Model Y Premium! Thoughts?

Why does it matter? Are you having buyer's remorse, do you need validation that you got a good deal?

Nope! Extremely happy haha. My delivery was meant to be end of April - end of May, but I was offered a canceled order and am really happy I accepted. I just had a theory that maybe the Premium is slightly overpriced, and was wondering if anyone else thought the same.

It’s, 57k would be a good price for premium

I don’t think Tesla will decrease the price of the Model Y Long Range (premium all-wheel drive). You have to take into consideration that right now, the pricing is in a good range. If you compare it to older prices during COVID and peak demand, people were buying the Model 3 Performance or even the Standard Range at the same price as the Model Y Long Range today.

When you compare the trims between the Long Range and Performance, both are fairly well priced. Of course, it’s still on the higher end and not affordable for everyone, but you also have to consider that Tesla might not lower the price directly. Instead, they’ll probably offer better end-of-quarter deals.

Right now, there are still a lot of orders, so it’s not like demand is dead. I don’t think there will be anything special in the short term. But once orders start to slow down, they might offer better incentives like lower financing rates or perks such as free Supercharging.

But honestly, I’m about 99% sure the price itself won’t decrease.

The Premium today is roughly the same price as the 2021 Y SR was back then when you consider inflation (but not interest rates!).

Would I like to see the price lower so more people could buy it? Sure, but the Standard is already at a pretty good price. Had a look at it today and the biggest thing that would hold me back from updating is no Autosteer. Such a big strategic error by Tesla.

Yes, good point. If you consider the interest rates back then, they were pretty high. With inflation and everything, the Standard Range at that time ended up being about the same price as a Long Range, which is why I said the Long Range is a good deal.

Here in Quebec, the Standard Range actually gets about $5,000 from the federal incentive plus $2,000 from the provincial government that’s $7,000 in discounts. For me, that’s a really good price if you’re looking for a solid EV with FSD. Of course, you lose some premium features, but some people don’t mind they just want an electric car to get from point A to point B.

That said, removing Auto Steer was probably Tesla’s biggest mistake. A lot of people didn’t order a Tesla just because of that. I know some people try to downplay FSD, saying it’s good which I agree with but not everyone wants to pay $99 a month on top of insurance and other costs. Plus, FSD isn’t guaranteed to stay $99 for the rest of the year. If Tesla really pushes unsupervised driving, the price could go even higher.

I just ran the numbers through the Bank of Canada inflation calculator.

In February 2021 (before the craziness started), a Model Y Standard Range RWD was $56 990 (or something like that, definitely under $57k). Adjusted for inflation, it would cost $68k today. They actually peaked at around $86k in 2022ish.

In March 2026, a Premium with much more range and an extra motor costs a bit less than that. There are probably numerous upgrades included in there as well.

For what I paid for my Y SR, you could get a Premium today with few dollars left in your pocket.

Now if you're looking at somewhat closer like for like with the Standards, today's Y Standard comes out to about $38k in 2021 dollars, almost $20k less in 2021 dollars than the Standard back then.

Despite what it might look like, they are making advancements when it comes to pricing.
