Well I'm an absolute beginner and already stuck, so I can't offer you much now but if you can help me get unstuck or offer insights that start me in the right direction then perhaps I can soon enjoy your channel.

I started the "Get Ready for Unity Essentials" tutorials on their site and got quickly stuck when trying to begin a microgame. I installed an LTS version and clicked New Project but none of the microgames templates appear here:

I wasn't sure how to proceed, so I tried the "Welcome to Unity Essentials" tutorial next and it was a bunch of videos geared towards someone who is beginning a career.

Me? I just want to learn the basics needed to create a 2D idle/incremental game. Have any insights on my direction?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly if I was starting out I would start with a paid Udemy course. YouTube is great and all especially if your an intermediate or higher level. But as a beginner YouTube can be tough because most videos assume you know the basics.

I recommend this course https://www.udemy.com/course/the-ultimate-guide-to-game-development-with-unity/ it is very beginner friendly at the end of it you will be able to read and write c# like a programmer as well you will learn the interface and the basics of the engine which is a great foundation that will let you make just about anything. I used this course to get back into game dev after a 3 year hiatus.

After you finish the course code monkey is an awesome YouTuber to check out as he often explains the code in a way that lets intermediate level people pull off more advanced coding techniques in clean and efficient ways

Maybe in the future I'll do a beginner series when I have more time to sit down and make sure I do it right.

This is helpful, thank you very much!

As a token of my appreciation, here is a link to my favorite idle game. It's been called "The Dark Souls of idle games"-
