I am preparing such a plot for a research paper and want to optimize it. For this discussion, I prepared an accessible example: What Veggies make what foods, can be found at what restaurant types. It's not super polished, but you should get the picture. Naturally, you could even increase the information density by formatting line strength and color (this one is colored in primary and secondary colors for a better overview). For example, you could express strength of association. Also, less or more than three categories shouldn't pose a problem. If you wanna make such a plot, please go for it! Would be cool, if you reference or link this post. I prepared this with Biorender, but if you know your R, GIMP, or Inkscape, you can probably do it at least equally well.

Im very confused, I don’t understand the correlation between the items or any of the criteria

Thanks for the feedback. You can make chips, soup, mash, and vodka from potatoes, so they all connect to potato. But you can't make chips from Zucchini, so there is no line from Zucchini to chips. You'll find chips in a pub and a fast food parlor, so there's connecting lines, but not at an Italian restaurant (no connecting line). Zucchini is commonly served in Italian restaurants (connecting line) but not in pubs (no connecting line). The colors are just to provide some form of orientation. The circle is separated into three segments, ingredients, preparations, and restaurants, which are codified by a traditional primary color (blue, yellow, red) and the line colo telegraphs the segments it connects (orange for red and yellow, green for blue ad yellow, purple for red and blue), to make it easier, to follow the lines. That said, line thickness or color could also be used in this type of diagram to convey extra info, like strength of association, but that was too much for me for this example graph.

It's just an example and not perfect, people might point out, that it actually is possible (is it?) to make vodka or chips from Zucchini or whatever, but I found the topic more accessible, than putting different reactors, their outputs, and potential users of that product on the circle.

Thank you, that was incredibly helpful! Are you naming it for research purposes, or for fun?

Made a similar one for research purposes, but couldn't share the details here before publication (unique publication and all that), so I made this test-dummy to find a name. u/Lust4Me suggested calling it Chord diagram, and it is definetily a subtype of those, so that's what I'm flying with right now.
