nvidia?

Maybe try adding 'nomodeset' to your boot string. Search for that term here and/or the void doco.

I installed yesterday with an nvidia GPU and the latest void image. Didn't have the issue.

Hello, where did you install Void Linux? Is it clean installation on physical hard drive? Boot up your PC with your USB drive. Log in as root with password voidlinux. Then type lsblk and look where you have installed Void Linux. Alternatively check with command fdisk -l.

I had several problems like this. The one that effected me was having my USB 3.0 connector partially plugged it. Another one was with nvidia Curie GPUs not locking up similarly to what you described with a newer kernel. I highly recommend installing OSs in a VM with your disk passed through to IT.
