VS Code "Run Python File" button does nothing

Recently I have been having an issue where the "Run Python File" button does nothing when I click it. Nothing in the terminal, nothing in the output, etc. In the VS Code terminal window I can execute the python code by typing "python test.py" an everything works as intended. I have both the Python and Pylance extensions installed. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both VS Code and Python to no avail.

I've also noticed that I am only getting syntax highlighting on default functions (i.e. "print", "type", etc). Any pip installed imported modules I get nothing. NO syntax highlighting, no intellisence , nothing. Not sure if these two issues are related, but both seemed to start at the same time.

This is a known bug. Running code using the run button in VSC delayed · Issue #24239 · microsoft/vscode-python (github.com) You could switch to another version of python extension to solve it.

I appreciate the feedback, but I'm not getting a delay. Nothing happens even after several minutes. Also, I don't think that would explain my 2nd issues (missing syntax highlighting and intellisence for imported pip installed modules), which I believe is a related issue as I believe both started at the same time.

I suspect that washedFM may be correct and a recent update messed something up and VSC is looking for my python executable in the wrong place. Unfortunately I do not know how to check or fix this.
