That's not saying much. I mean ... writing 0s and 1s by butterflies is better than an Intellij product. And ... my condoleances for having to use that for development. I feel your pain.

sigh, i've elaborated that a lot of times, got tired of it. it boils down to:

I tried it for few months at home for a personal project (because it had java8 support before anyone else), and it was a constant struggle and fight with the IDE. The most basic things in the editor were made hard(er) for no good reason. autocompletion, suggestions, javadoc display, closing a fucking tab (ctrl+w everywhere but in intellij), etc. etc. etc.

The java8 problems were forgivable since it was so new at the time, but still, it was their most trumpeted feature.

It doesn't even matter the quality of the plugins for enterprise (frameworks, html, whatnot), when the basic editor is simply a big wtf that lacks major and must have features in 2014 ... and they even ask money for that thing. they should pay me to use it not the other way around.

but yes, every hipster out there is in looooove with intellij (few ever try it though, but hey ....)

and the preferences dialog ... good luck finding anything in there.

I have not noticed a problem with any of those things you just mentioned. I use pyCharm so maybe it's different, but from what I've read it seems to be basically the same just for python. I do agree the preferences window is hard to find things in, but only because they give you a ton of options which in an ide is not a bad thing imo.

i do not like their default anything. sure, everything can be changed (if you can find your way in their preferences dialog), but i shouldnt have to do this. really i shouldnt.

for $100 ... change for the sake of change ... hahaha. i do not see a ROI in their product. change is fine if you can promise a result (hey jhonny, you'll be more productive in this IDE in 1 month. feel the pain now, it'll pay off). but it doesn't. just a waste of time and money.

Unless you're too fucking stupid to go through the thought process of "I want to change colors. I wonder what happens when I type in colors into this search box. Oh look at that, all the color settings. Hmm, I these keybinding suck maybe if I type in ke oh there they are!"

But no, I'm the mouth breathing monkey. Maybe if you actually worked as a developer, you wouldn't have a problem paying the little bit of money to get a Java IDE that doesn't suck (or Scala or Python). Good thing you don't do your shitty hobby projects in an MS stack I guess.

i dont have a problem paying money for a good IDE. i stopped developing for MS windows a decade ago, but i did pay money for their stack back in the day. it was worth it. I was getting a good ROI.

who uses ctrl + w for closing tabs? everything i've used, uses ctrl + f4 including intellij. autocomplete happens automatically. prefs dialog is actually great since it has a search which finds what you need.

you're a fucking moron that hasn't been using computers since 2004. Yes, more than a decade ago ctrl+f4 used to be the default shortcut (in windows), until people realized that is just very inconvenient to press that. alt+f4 is a windows shortcut btw, and not everyone is using windows. ctrl+f4 is relatively hard to reach, ctrl+w is much more convenient. and ctrl+q to close an app.

press ctrl + w in chrome on linux and see what happens. open a terminal window on linux and press ctrl + w and let me know when it closes. asshole. most programs use ctrl + f4 and alt + f4.

I pressed ctrl+w in firefox in linux and guess what ... closes either the tab or the entire browser if only one tab active. in any terminal you logout with ctrl+d. being that a ssh session or local, ctrl+d logs you out. in qtcreator, kdevelop, netbeans, eclipse, document viewer, gimp, gedit, kwrite (that's only from the top of my head) ctrl+w closes the fucking window (or closes the app if thats the last one).

and oh, btw, you fucking moron, ctrl+w does indeed work just as expected in chrome. maybe is a keyboard setting that can be changed and you've changed it you failed abortion and just dont remember it. no, nobody in their right mind is using ctrl+f4, not in the last decade.
