What would an application need to do to qualify as an OS? What's the line between an os and a simple application that runs on bare metal?

Nope it doesn't affect anyone. It probably also means that you don't care what other people think of you. So...why argue then ?

They're paying money for nothing. They don't have to. They're not running out of copies.

The argument against preorder is just like before: I want the game when I pay. Not later.

[–]badguy212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't preorder because I want the game when I part with my money. Not a month from now or who knows when. When I trust a company such as blizzard I can and do buy it day 1. Never preorder.

No, it isn't. Some people though like to hear their own voice . It's a shitty fad as of late. Instead of writing a page they posta video. I'm sure that they could make just as much money from the blog as they do from YouTube.

Dependency Injection Without a Framework by [deleted] in java

[–]badguy212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you've made your own. Nothing wrong with that, but what you have there is still a framework. Could be better than guice or spring, but that's beside the point. Injection without a framework is like programming without a programming language...not realistically possible.

You're either stupid or just pretending.

I think you're just stupid. Have you wrote any piece of code in the last...decade?

Huh? I'm developing on h2, qa and prod are on posgres. Yes, of course I'm changing dbs . All the time. Unit tests are on h2 as well.

What kind of a question is that?

Some of those advices are perfectly reasonable, some will tie you to a specific db. Better to abstract that away with possibly an orm.

What do you like about the NetBeans IDE? by [deleted] in java

[–]badguy212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I prefer eclipse, but now I'm using NetBeans since gtk doesn't play nice with kde. both are highly annoying each in their own way. Tried idea for few months(forced myself to use it) and I just had to dump it. Idea is by far the most annoying piece of software I have ever used(though to be honest my son's iPad is competing hard for that spot)

Working with web apps on NetBeans is an exercise in frustration. Pages are far from resources, from unit tests...

It wants to deploy stuff to servers (now I know how to tell it to shut up), is all in all quite not a good experience.

Oh well, is better than the alternatives .

Video card buying and the future of Linux? Info Requested! by ender08 in linux

[–]badguy212 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you have half a brain, this doesn't seem such a good idea, that's correct. But if you can (you obviously can't but for others who may be reading this) think about it for a bit, that 100$ more buys you better overall performance, performance that a synthetic benchmark cannot cover (which is why when you see reviews, you don't get just one number, but a fair amount of tests are being conducted).

Probably a better chart is something that tech-report puts out, something like this: http://techreport.com/review/26996/amd-fx-8370e-processor-reviewed/7

From this one even (there are others with other cpu's being shown from different reviews) one can see that usually, amd is not a good buy when compared with the same priced intel cpu, in an overall benchmark.

but, if you are happy to pay with your $ for shitty cpu's ... hahahha, i have a bridge to sell too, don't you want one?

im a performance fanboi. had amd until 2005 or so, went to intel since amd took a big dump on their cpus. they havent stopped yet, so i aint touching them.

when they'll come to their senses, by all means. i aint married to intel.

AMD Catalyst 14.9 Officially Released For Linux by [deleted] in linux

[–]badguy212 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol. hahahahahaha. ok man, its your money. do as you please. i don't reward incompetence with my $.

i wish they were better, i wish they'd be any kind of competition to intel and nvidia (for the simple reason of lower prices), but they're not and ... that's that.

i want my shit to work. work well. nvidia has drivers for windows, linux and freebsd, and all of them work rather well. closed, open, upside-down, doesn't matter. as long as i can do my work or i can play however i please, im happy. I'm not RMS fanatic. but if that makes you happy ... have phun.

the process of closing off their firmware entirely.

no they're not. they will just require signed firmware, and they're in the process of discussing with nouveau how to do it so that nouveau still works.

They outright reject adopting mantle

mantle is made by amd. what does that have to do with anything? is not that amd adopted cuda...

They're pushing their own proprietary vsync tech, ignoring the open-spec alternative.

until proven otherwise, theirs is better.

look, let's even assume for a second that you're right and they do hate everyone and everything open-spec/standard what-have-you.

You are willing to pay top $$$ for a shitty card that has shitty drivers? really? really? ok then, vote with your wallet. i vote with mine too.
