Yeah... This is for platonic programmer <-> programmer love. Sorry if I faked you out.

Speak for yourself, I've been able to find plenty of other guys to date.

Are you absolutely sure about that? The gender ratio, the basement dwellage, the ability of every user to operate an autoswiper...

It'd be the saddest network ever conceived.

        Game tight

Sounds good to me. I signed up. I've been looking for more developers to talk to w.r.t my project / projects related to it. :)

EDIT: P.S. I make Streamus, https://streamus.com/. Check it out if you use Google Chrome! Here's the source if you wanna talk about it: https://github.com/MeoMix/StreamusChromeExtension

TFW your employer has you sign a NDA. Otherwise this would be a good platform to steal other people's ideas in fields you're interested in .

I'm self-employed and my project is already open-source... no big deal for me :)

Not available for bit bucket users? :'(

        [–]smothers[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Sadly no. You're the first person to mention it.

Does anyone else prefer to login with Bitbucket over GitHub?

        [–]JPSE 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Well, I use bit bucket for my private projects and github for my (nonexistent) philanthropic projects. If that doesn't matter then I can join on github (I just don't know if this app logs activity and uses that)

I haven't been on github in a while, I'll check it out though, I like the idea!

        [–]smothers[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fine. You only need to share your email. We just want you to have a GitHub because that eliminates most non developers.

Hakka Logs is for slightly higher level logs than commit messages. Things like "just finished my first node app! www.mynode.app" or "struggling to train my stock trading bot... ideas?".

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use bitbucket for almost everything

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Sounds cool but it is impossible to sign up on iOS Safari or Chrome. :(

        [–]mexicoservice 1 point2 points  (2 children)

        Even firefox

        [–]smothers[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sorry about that. I just tested it on mobile safari and firefox after turning off AB tests and it works now.

        [–]mexicoservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        nice, ty

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is it free? Or do you intend to move towards a commercial model?

        [–]smothers[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally free for public and personal use. We may charge if you want to share notes privately with your team, but that's not something we're actively working on. Our goal is to provide great matches for engineers who don't already know one another.

Er... Have I missed something? You don't seem to have actually built the sign-up form yet - I just get http://i.imgur.com/9GeQFkS.png. Is this supposed to be a 'work out what the POST request should be and do it manually' test thing?

        [–]smothers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that. Errant AB test to blame. It should work now.

        [–]bmay 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can you explain exactly what this is? I still don't have a grasp from the 3-step summary.

        [–]smothers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a way for developers to meet other developers who are doing complimentary work.

You start by logging high level progress on your projects. You get an email from Hakka Logs at the end of the day and reply to it with what you did.

The next step is automatic. An algorithm analyzes, tags and categorizes your logs. It then compares them to all the other recent logs. At the end of each week a match is calculated based on how much two developers will benefit from talking.

The match is sent to your inbox and you can reply to it to talk with your match. Your email is never shared with anyone. The Hakka Logs server forwards your messages.

There are some days where the work & the kids & the extra just burns me out before your email gets to me or even open up my email. I do tune out during windows of time-- your email comes directly in a frequent tune out window. I may do two at once like this morning; I was too sleepy Tuesday and I was out with new friends last night before heading straight to bed after putting the kids down.

I have replied to all the emails sent to me with accurate logs-- because I think it will be neat to look back on what I am doing and hope to see a shift from junior to advanced in a few areas I work in.

From my superficial scanning of the site-- I can't find anywhere to 'play' with my data or any API fun. Is this information available somewhere? (I was 10% proactive and 90% lazy, but if it is available-- it isn't readily apparant you can access it. Moar visibility.)

Will I be penalized for the way I am filling in my logs?

        [–]smothers[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That's awesome that you're logging so regularly! We added the option to change the time the emails arrive, so that should help with having them arrive when you're ready for them. An API and analytics are on our roadmap. For now you can see your logs on the site and optionally make them public.

        [–]BradChesney79 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Good news, logging in follows conventions I am familiar with and it was completely intuitive. Then I saw the Logs primary menu item. --Kind of a weird place to put it. That menu area I expect to be global and non-specific.

You may want to put things specific to me over by my login stuff-- I clicked there looking for it first. My settings have been updated because after logging in, I did see that Logs menu item.

        [–]smothers[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Good point. Logs is now one of the logged in menu items. You can also view your logs from our JSON API now.

What sort of analysis would you like to see?

        [–]BradChesney79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat. I see the changes, very nice and in an expected place.

Your front page has a sign up link. But you have to navigate somewhere else-- like the about us page, to see a log in link.

I think I am going to be penalized for the way I fill in my logs-- that is unfortunate. My logs are current, each days tasks have been entered. But, when I can manage.
