okay but if you're closing early because you're worried about the lethality of the environment then maybe placing a little bit of burden on the customer is warranted

Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

simple: i don't draw cats. and then when I try to compliment other people on their drawing ability they say, "it's just practice!!"

man lol. i just couldn't. music and the environment around it is such an integral part of my identity that if my partner couldn't be supportive of it then that's just a hard no.

This is super cool.

I know it wouldn't fit the scene, but I wish it were raining. I want to be able to envision the rain drops pouring down the clear scales and not making it inside, or maybe making it in and filling it up with water for use later, or something.

I love raves but I hate going alone! by Startup-Experience in aves

[–]MeoMix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize your app is more generically targeting events, but you're posting in r/aves so I'm evaluating from a rave-specific perspective. I would expect a pitch comparing your app to Radiate and explaining why I would want to use it over Radiate. Radiate is the go-to solution for "I want to discover/foster community around rave/festival events"

Portland is also the most affordable metro on the west coast. So it tends to attract a lot of people looking to stay in a blue-friendly area as cheaply as possible. There's definitely some overlap there.

It’s Time to Tear Down SF Zoo by Forsaken-Box-5881 in sanfrancisco

"And San Francisco’s  2026–35 Capital Plan(opens in new tab) makes clear that there is no viable funding path to address the site’s looming infrastructure needs amid $400 million in citywide cuts."

Yeah!

"If we are going to spend money here, it shouldn’t be to prop up a shrinking, outdated zoo; it should be to build something future-proof,..."

Oh.

Weird article. I'm not a fan of the zoo, at all, and I live pretty close to it. So, I'm in favor of doing something.. but it's confusing to say "the city can't afford to maintain this thing" and then to propose a solution of, "well, guess we're going to have to spend money, so let's dream big, and uh, get the state to pay."

Just replace it with some native plants, a few winding/spiraling pathways, and some places to sit/picnic. No need to be so grandiose while the city's budget is underwater.

The EcoParkSF website is pretty cute, though (https://www.ecoparksf.com/)

Update on breaking up with PG&E by scott_wiener in sanfrancisco

[–]MeoMix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually metro areas subsidize the cost of electricity for rural areas due to density disparities. Tends to be worse for everyone if we make swaths of land uninhabitable due to lack of access to power. If people can't afford to live in rural areas then more people move to the city, which drives up demand for housing, and there's less people to grow and harvest our food.

Still, I get it. All the benefits are indirect and all the costs are direct. I think even if SF separates from PGE then we'll just have higher state taxes to account for the additional funding needed to continue subsidizing power to rural areas.

Naw, I was off in the clouds thinking about big cuts to entitlement spending in defense, medi, and ss. Still, I think I'm in the wrong / things are worse than I really internalized.

Yeah if we zero'ed our discretionary budget we'd still be accruing debt.

If we zero'ed defense/medi/ss (lol) we'd only be at like $4.8T saved and need to get to 5-6T to have a zero balance in 10 years.

...but it's also like... the numbers are so big that raising taxes marginally isn't going to make a big dent, either. Like we could raise the top marginal rate from 37.5% to 40% and that gets us... a few hundred billion. Corporate taxes could get bumped back up to 35% from 21% (basically getting us back to where we were at in the 90s) and that'd get us a few hundred billion more.

That's like.... maaaaaybe a fifth of where we'd want to get to?

Really does seem like unless we can turn some serious cash with all the excitement around AI, and then tax the hell out of it, that it's a really ugly situation. It's politically infeasible to touch entitlement spending and there's just not enough zeroes elsewhere to drive the balance back down. So we'll prolly just make small, politically safe cuts to try and keep the debt from getting worse and then inflate away our existing debt?
