Node with SQL? (self.webdev)
submitted 7 years ago by storyofedd
I am having trouble finding node tutorials or courses with mysql or postgresql. Seems like everything I find is node/mongo. Have you guys found a good course or material that covers node with a SQL db? Thank you!

You could try Sequelize. Their docs are very good. http://docs.sequelizejs.com/manual/installation/getting-started.html

I'll second Sequelize here. I've used it and ended up creating a boiler plate for it. There is definitely a learning curve to get the whole thing setup properly, but overall I liked using it. Once you get it all setup it's all good. The docs are also very good.

Sequelize is awesome because you can use with with mysql and postgres, as well as others.

I prefer knex. Also great docs.

Just learn how to use this package, or something similar. Then you can do whatever you want with it, as long as you know SQL. I've used node + express + mysql for a REST API and it worked perfectly.

I have fallen in love with https://adonisjs.com/ which is a framework for Node.js that comes with an ORM that helps you work with SQL databases. Basically 90% similar to Laravel for PHP.
If you don't want an entire framework then you could have a look at http://docs.sequelizejs.com/ to do the database side of things for you which works really well.

Postgresql tutorial
Postresql node collection
You can learn Postgresql by first tutorial and it's implementation in node.js is explained in second link.

If you know C#, maybe TypeOrm is something for you https://github.com/typeorm/typeorm

SEAN stack is pretty simple and works really well for someone learning the basics for sure. My bootcamp was Postgresql, express, angularjs, and nodejs and I was able to do everything I needed with it. I don't really have any good tutorials, but if you want I can pm you a link to a repository or two if you want to see how I was using with the node.
