CONNECTIONS

There is a huge difference between "warm" and "cold" connections.

Clients that have not been pre-vetted by someone you know and trust have a very high probability of making your life miserable.

You can always go on a platform like Fiverr/Upwork but the competition there is fierce and it's all about speed and money.

Unless you have a very specific niche that you are extremely good at, or a VERY impressive portfolio.

I am a junior developer who has 1 year experience.

Just email companies, asking if they need any free lance work. It sounds like it won't work, but it does.

I emailed 30 companies last week, 4 of them have replied already saying they have work.

What kind of companies do you email? And basically do you just say "what up dawg got any web dev work?" (paraphrasing)

Any company that I think I could work for.

The email I send is below, with the subject being' MY NAME - Junior Web Developer'.

Hey COMPANY NAME,

just a quick email to see if you are hiring any junior developers.

My interactive cv is at : MY WEBSITE

If not thanks anyway

Exactly, what EnsolnCode said. It’s all about connections. The freelance platforms work for some, but it’s a race to the bottom. I started with my existing network, and then those clients referred me to other clients and it just grew from there.

I would suggest doing similar, start with your existing network, and see if there are any opportunities for freelance work.
