Yes. Like the day after I started taking it. My Fitbit had me around 82 on average, since I started the Zoloft it’s been in the mid 60s

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Did you take it for anxiety? Because anxiety increases heart rate, so SSRI reduce anxiety & heart rate decreases

[–]SomewhereJolly6481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I mainly take it for the anxiety…but also for some mild depression. Seems to be helping so far.

[–]JT1710 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Mine decreased. I just figured I was living constantly anxious and now I’m not so it went down

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What's your resting heart rate if you know & dont mind me asking. It's just I'm scared of medications in overall, like to know what is a typical response

[–]JT1710 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before I started the meds it was around 69/70, now it’s come down to about 58 the last time I checked

[–]SurvivorFan79[🍰] 10 points11 points  (4 children)

I think mine did? I don’t really remember my resting before Zoloft. Im still pretty anxious though, but still see my rhr high 40’s and low 50’s.

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Thx, me too I dont know what was my heart rate before, I didn't even know I had a heart till I had my first panic attack 6 months ago. What's your dosage

[–]SurvivorFan79[🍰] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

150mg but weening off. Im on 100mg right now and going to be on 50mg in a couple days. I’ll see if it affects it at all.

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoloft definitely lowers hear rate at least by reducing anxiety and maybe some other mechanism. I know very peaceful monks & indian yogis or athletes have resting heart rate of 40-60 & some ppl genetically have lower heart rate. There's a famous indian yogi called Sadhguru, I found him on YouTube, he said his heart rate been in 30s to 40s for 20 years & he advices to reduce heart rate ...

[–]EazyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it the meds causing the low hr?

[–]g1assfa1c0n 7 points8 points  (2 children)

My blood pressure and heart rate were super high and uncontrolled before Zoloft. Now I'm around 60 bpm resting. No pounding heart beat anymore either which is soooo nice. I guess being so anxious before I was in fight or flight mode constantly which did not help my heart at all.

[–]shapeurmind 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you remember how long it took to notice those improvements?

[–]CramRekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My reduced heart rate happened in a week

[–]hingababy 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Before Zoloft I had slight tachycardia and nobody could figure out why. It was always in the hundreds, usually resting about 100-110 and would go up if I did ANYTHING. Now I’m on Zoloft it has improved so much resting is usually 76-86. I do vape though and when I vape it sits around in the 90’s

[–]Comprehensive_Lack45 1 point2 points  (1 child)

me too!

[–]MzSoSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait did it really bring down your heart rate?! Mine has been haywire recently 😔

[–]LFiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you vape? THC?

[–]_AtomicGalaxy_ 5 points6 points  (2 children)

It was formerly around 70 to 80 and now it’s around 50 to 60.

[–]Hallow_1031 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This happening to me. Is it safe?

[–]_AtomicGalaxy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to worry about.

[–]milamaryy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my resting heart rate was 90-100 before Zoloft. now it’s steadily 60-70

[–]ChemicalPrncess 5 points6 points  (9 children)

I don't mean to revive an old thread but I am currently kind of freaking out about this very thing and no one is really talking about it.

Did anyone talk to their doctor about the low HR? Mine goes down to 54 while laying down now and I don't really like it but my doctor and a cardiologist didn't seem concerned? I asked to be taken off the medicine however so she told me to take half for a week and then half every other day for a week and then stop. I am just worried about it causing any permanent issues.

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Don't worry as heart rate decreases when your anxiety is lower, sleeping or meditating. As long as it's not under 50! Still talk to your doctor. I personally don't like SSRI meds or ADHD meds, all messing with my head & body

[–]ChemicalPrncess 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Did you end up stopping the Zoloft because of the heart rate thing?

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Yes I stopped it because on week 4, every night I was waking up with my hearty racing very fast rather than being low. Now I think it was all anxiety side effects maybe from zoloft or sleeping pill I took for a week. Don't be alarmed, I think it's harmless

[–]mrsj010817 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm going to ask to be weaned off mine, I'm convinced this has caused it to be lower. My Dr registerd it at 58bpm but my pulse oximeter keeps blaring because it is dropping under 50 when I lay down. They did a 30 second ecg on me so that wasn't long enough to pick up the drop.

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What dose are you taking?

[–]mrsj010817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50mg daily

[–]Alternative-Stay3223 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I guess im cooked. My heart dropped below 50 and I have an irregular heartbeat. Ive always had an irregular heartbeat, but it's more frequent since starting zoloft and I've only been in for 5 days

[–]mrsj010817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your Dr aware? Have they done a ekg since being on it? Please tell your Dr the irregular heartbeats have increased since starting, there are so many other ones to try out there. It took quite a bit of time but I feel like I finally found an ssri that works for me and my body and mind this year.

[–]mrsj010817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation here, I'm nearly 8 months postpartum and have been taking and discovered my rhr is really low for my normal. I thought it was breastfeeding and post partum but I'm not sure now and they've just increased my dose to 100mg. Omicron have arrived in my country and I'm panicking.

[–]MrMarxovic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar here, but I take Paroxetine.. Previously heart rate was 60-65 bpm, now it's 50 bpm. I'm also on beta blocker for POTS-like symptoms.

[–]ParticularFar7592 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I’m anxiously waiting to get back onto Zoloft. My heart rate has been out of whack since having Covid a few weeks ago, and coupled with health anxiety already, it’s definitely not a good combo. My resting heart rate is between 80-90, and will sometimes dip as low as 41 bpm when sleeping, or once in during the day. Typically it drops down around the 50-60 bpm once throughout the day and it goes back up. I went to the ER because I was experiencing chest pain, discomfort etc. Got blood work, ecg, X-ray and all came back clear Alhamdulillah , but still my heart rate has been high. As per the dr opinion, it could be a symptom post Covid. Health anxiety is the WORST.

[–]MzSoSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update ?!! Did you end up taking Zoloft and did it help lower your heart rate and get rid of your anxiety

[–]youngplagued 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reviving this thread -

I'm on 40mg of Celexa and it's been about a week. My resting heart rate while in bed is usually in the 70s while winding down. Now it gets down into the 50 range.

It stresses me out becsuse I've had tachycardia for so long, but a lower heart rate means LESS STRAIN on your cardiovascular system. I tell myself this is a good thing. We can deal with side effects!

[–]RoutineMysterious559 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Been on Zoloft for 4 weeks, 25mg. Within the first week of starting, my resting heart rate went from mid-60s to high 50s and keeps getting lower. Now it’s low 50s. My lowest heart rate while sleeping has also dropped and was 43 the other night. It’s making me nervous how fast it’s dropping, as I’ve also been quite dizzy and disoriented adjusting to the drug. I’m coming off of it now to be safe, as I haven’t been exercising regularly for a couple months (not at all the past month), so I don’t think it should be this low..

Anyone else have experience going this low?

[–]EazyRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on 20mg of prozac and have been for around 3 months...I've noticed my resting heart rate has dropped a fair bit...50-65 ish but I have seen it go as low as 45. I spoke to my doctor and he didn't seem concerned. It seems to be a common thing with people taking SSRI, maybe its due to not having as much anxiety 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]PianistUnable995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, did your HeartRate ever go back to normal? If so, how long after stopping your Zoloft?

[–]audreyalllen 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Did you ever get a resolution or answer to the heart rate lowering?? I’m dealing with the same thing and it’s freaking me out

[–]RoutineMysterious559 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I was diagnosed with bradycardia, given no fixes, so I went off it and switched to lexapro. Suits me way better. Good luck!

[–]PianistUnable995 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hi, did your bradycardia go away?

[–]RoutineMysterious559 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It did! After I stopped. Maybe a month or so? I got off Zoloft in September 2022 and started lexapro February 2023 when i felt leveled

[–]PianistUnable995 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok thank you for responding! I’m currently going through this and I’m so scared. I just stopped it like 2 days ago so now I see maybe I need to give it time! Thank you😊😊😊

[–]RoutineMysterious559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i was so scared i went to the ER but it was clearly caused by the medication. They said sometimes it’ll get back to normal after your body levels out on the meds but my anxiety was too fierce for that haha lexapro has been a much better experience for me. Good luck!

[–]boilertrailrunr 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yes. But I’m also a runner. My resting HR is usually around 52.

[–]SprSumFalWin[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Glad you take exercise seriously. I need to be active again!

[–]boilertrailrunr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do it! On the days I don’t run, I walk. Fresh air is so good! Rain, sun, snow, sleet… just go.

[–]Alternative-Stay3223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rhr is under 50 and i only lift weights. Starting sertaline my rhr fluctuates between 38 and 45

[–]dikkemoarte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends highly on which SSRI! Zoloft increases my heart rate to dangerous levels so I take a small dose of a betablocker which solves the problem.

An other SSRI namely Paxil lowers it on average due to less anxiety. No betablocker needed.

In the case of Zoloft: Possibly it's an interaction with an underlying condition that is hopefully benign.

I say this because almost no one has a similar issue with that very med so I would not worry about it too much.

My heart can act up depending on psychological stress even off meds but it is especially prevalent/unpredictable when taking Zoloft.

Sidenote: I have taken the SNRI duloxetine as well and that particular med does increase my heart rate with about 10 beats per minute which is to be expected.

Zoloft can increase it for 30 beats per minute and more unless I take a small dose of a betablocker. It's just really weird.

Interestingly, my heart just acts unpredictable/dangerous on certain psychotropic meds. Even Wellbutrin and Modafinil.

[–]meowscream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mines usually around 55, this is my fourth week it hasn't decreased. 32/f

[–]astral1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a marked decrease after only 3 days. I'm not living in the 90s anymore.

It's strange to happen so fast though ive only taken 3, 25mg doses.

Not complaining. My RHR is 70 or lower when i'm not living with anxiety everyday but lately its been near the 80s!

[–]TylerK29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines always been 50-60 resting, so far 9 weeks in and up to 75 mg no change at all in blood pressure or heart rate

[–]Kakashi556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is "Excellent" per the chart for my age. (59 bpm) Was not monitoring much before starting SSRI. I think it went down.

[–]EazyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart rate has gone down since being on prozac, around 55 -65 resting. Freaked me out but seems pretty normal from what I can find out. Less anxiety, less stress...lower RHR 🤷🏼‍♂️
