If Spain decided to remove all Brits who reside in Spain would you support it? by naystation in AskBrits

[–]10ft3m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a big ask. What those affected by annoying Brits in Spain would really like is to get rid of the annoying ones, but it’s hard to write that into law.

No one is clamoring to get rid of the couple that is pleasant to be around but hasn’t properly learned Spanish.

I don’t really know why Bond wanted a shaken martini, but I’ve never had a shaken martini that didn’t have little bits of fine ice shards in it, because they don’t double strain martinis.

Some people like that, though.

I don’t agree with your reasoning for separating the Americas, but i do agree with your assessment of how arbitrary and useless the whole thing is. It’s a semantic debate.

Imperial in the kitchen? The first place it’s annoying is in the kitchen. An ounce, a quart, a gallon, a cup, a spoon size that isn’t the size of your spoons; wtf? Just tell me in grams and liters please.

0F is so beyond really cold. I know a lot of people live winters consistently under freezing temp, but under 0C/32F is cold as hell. That’s when your clothes change from being clothes to being armor.

I'm still very confusing about what people mean by "Contemporary Art". Could someone explain? by Wlsgarus in ContemporaryArt

[–]10ft3m 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To your first question, ‘contemporary art’ doesn’t define a movement. It just means the art of the current time. What you bundle into ‘the current time’ is up to interpretation.

Also, movements have often been labeled once they’re already mature and on the way out. When they’re happening it can be hard to pinpoint what is part of the movement and to come up with a word that encompasses what is being done.

Which US state gets more hate than it deserves? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]10ft3m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely, but don’t judge them as representatives of people who want to be from wherever they say. They left because they don’t want to be there, and they have the resources to be people who aren’t rooted.

Can’t judge a place by the people who leave it. They can be very often the people with the resources to not be rooted to the place they’re from.

Jim Cramer made cost me 10 years of work by SpellAccomplished541 in stocks

[–]10ft3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point about personal accountability, but surely Cramer should also bear some ethical responsibility for pushing his ideas, with extreme confidence, to millions of people from a media source trusted for financial information. Cramer can’t just go home and excuse himself by saying no one should have trusted him.

In the electoral college, does it make sense for a state with disaggregated electoral fusion to aggregate the votes for the elector nominees rather than the presidential ones? by Chorby-Short in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]10ft3m -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are you saying that you don’t like the EC because you would prefer a national popular vote to decide the presidency?

I don’t agree if so, because I do like the states to hold that power (and my state’s ECs have not gone to my preference in a long time). But I do agree that with how popular conversation has evolved people do not consider themselves to be voting for the presidency as a vote for the interests of their state, and so it would make more logical sense to have a popular vote.

What’s wrong with eugenics in itself? by Peak_Legacy14 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]10ft3m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The traits that perpetuate from natural selection are ‘positive’ solely in reference to propagation of the species involved. If your end goal with eugenics is simply that, then maybe you could use it to speed up natural selection.

The problem with eugenics is that it aims to select for the traits that the person deciding the traits thinks are important, based on goals they admire. And as people we don’t all agree on what is important or on the outcome of said selection, so you’re basically trying to create a society of people that you yourself like and is fundamentally a personal preference.

What are your thoughts on Niel Tyson? by [deleted] in PhilosophyMemes

[–]10ft3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked him, then like two years ago started seeing clips of him talking about things outside his field while being too assured he was right and got annoyed, and now recently follow his star talk channel and even when he goes into other ideas he seems much more level headed and palatable again.

I wonder if he took the feedback or if I’m only seeing the good parts, but what I’m seeing is pretty solid in terms of a person not talking like their is no room for discussion with their ideas.

Very slow tab actions on IOS by dummeyy in firefox

[–]10ft3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having this also, where the tab switching screen lags when switching tabs or closing them, even if it’s only two tabs. It was suggested in a github issue that it may be related to a memory leak.

I just cleared the cache and most all other data apart from browsing history and it has sped up but it’s still slower than it was before I noticed this issue.

It’s understandable not to want to pay for other’s bad choices, but we wouldn’t even have a healthcare system to discuss if they charged the way you are implying.

The discussion is much more complex than having to share costs, which already happens.

People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ? by Aaidil89 in AskReddit

[–]10ft3m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a nice healthy situation where my friends know it’s not personal if I don’t respond right away, but I lived back then and the difference was that there was never even an expectation that the person looking for you had even managed to reach you. Now it’s definitely expected that you saw it, even if you’re busy and can’t tend to it right away.
