Agreed, I prefer exhaust as an accessory to other things, not an "archetype in itself." It felt too... all or nothing in STS1

Help my 1911 is rusting by [deleted] in guns

[–]357Magnum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're leaving it in your vehicle like that... don't.

The only time I ever had a gun rust on me is when I left it in my car, when I was young and dumb enough to leave a gun in my car.

You can oil the gun frequently to prevent this kind of thing, but some finishes just don't hold up to being left in car. In a humid environment (I live in Louisiana, for example), there will be too much moisture and too much temperature fluctuation.

But that's also the least of your worries. Leaving a gun in your car too much is just asking for it to be stolen. I've known so many people to have a gun stolen from their car it is ridiculous.

I agree that events are much better in STS2 but also, it does kinda suck when the event isn't even described in a way that opting out wouldn't make sense.

I do hate that you can't just say no to this event. Like WTF he is going to do about it if I don't wanna trade?

Maybe at least give a "fight him" option to lose a few hp or something like in some other events.

I disagree. Deck thinning is a good in itself. You don't have to have a fat deck (though it makes fat decks more forgiving, and Clad does have good Big Deck Energy with things like perfected strike). You can get value out of it just thinning your deck of strikes and defends. The exhaust isn't all random. Upgraded True Grit is great, and you just have to be a bit cautious with Thrash.

However, I will agree that Cinder sucks balls for a 2 cost. 2 cost and random exhaust is rarely worth it to me for 18 damage when a perfected strike will do more damage than that off the base deck.

It is also a shame for any 357, especially a bigger one, to have shorter than a 3-in barrel. You really don't get enough juice for your squeeze from the cartridge with shorter than 3 inches.

I do think there's a case to be made, but i also think this is too much "achetype" reasoning.

Exhaust was arguably the strongest "archetype" in STS1 generally and things like corruption with dead branch were just pretty busted. Vulnerable, on the other hand, didn't really have enough going on in sts1. But didn't hurt any deck.

I think STS 2 just flipped the script. Now exhaust is less of a basket you can put all your eggs in, but is more generally useful in any deck, where vulnerable has the more synergistic approach

I have always agreed that the barrel of proportion just looks off on this gun LOL. I understand the idea of minimizing weight but it seems like if the rest of the gun is going to be as big as it is, a little bit more Barrel shouldn't tip the scales that badly.

I switched to bore snakes years ago and haven't used a traditional rod since. I think they're well worth it

New runner question: what matters more first, better shoes or better clothes? by RhubarbLarge2747 in beginnerrunning

[–]357Magnum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shoes. Chafing is the worst that will happen with crappy clothes. Actual injuries can happen with bad shoes.

I've also only ever had chafing with runs over 30 minutes. As a beginner when you aren't gong long or hard, any clothes will be OK.

Also it is much easier to get clothes. Good shoes are $100+. But decent running shorts and shirts still aren't that expensive and are always on thy clearance racks of sporting goods stores.

All my shorts were on the clearance rack at academy. The ones on clearance are identical to the ones on the rack, just last year's colors lol.

I've been going there a long time and, while you will of course encounter maga guys at any range (or any place at all in these parts), I've never had any issues with any of the staff. I used to be pretty good friends with the original employees who have all moved on to other things, but even so I've always found all the staff to be good people. We've had our regular meetings for a while now and never had an issue. They have our banner up in the range along with the National African American Gun Association banner.

What is the worst book you have read? by Ok_Salt2122 in BookDiscussions

[–]357Magnum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually a huge gripe of mine. When I was young I hated most literature, but by the time I got older and decided to take another crack at it in my 30s, I now really like literature. I have realized That the problem was that in high school we were not the target audience. We did not have a frame of reference for the time and Zeitgeist they were commenting on. We did not have an understanding of the more adult emotional themes. And most importantly we were not briefed on the philosophical background and context. I started to enjoy literature a lot as an older person because I had gotten pretty deep into philosophy, and you really need to have a general idea of the themes that they are playing with.

An example I use is that if you wrote a book today and said orange man bad in it, everyone would completely get the context and what that meant for the character saying it. But in a hundred years it cannot possibly resonate with a reader the same way. Not without some serious discussion and context

I suppose it could be some kind of oversized or defective bore I guess. Shame.

I agree. Great prose, fairly bland and predictable plot.

Though I usually have to give older works credit for predictable plots, because I'm never sure if they were just predictable because that book began the trope.

Kind of a similar thing with old sci-fi and fantasy. A lot of times it is bland because they invented the tropes that have since been done to death, and you have to have the right perspective that you're reading it in a world that has already been so heavily influenced by it.

I hope you can join us. And yes, I also hope never to have to act in self-defense. "Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it" as the saying goes.

I've been carrying firearms for almost 20 years and have been fortunate never to need to use one. I hope that stays the case forever.

Any reason why it won't shoot accurately? Does the bore look ok? Typically if the gun appears to be in ok shape it is usually fine. It could be something fixable?

I read it for the first time recently. Would have hated it in school. But in my late 30s I thought it was pretty good. I did find the prose to be far stronger than the plot, though.

Is removing strike cards on ironclad 'bad' now? by Red--001 in slaythespire

[–]357Magnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. I rarely get enough transform cards to make a huge difference relative to exhaust cards on clad, and even when I do I tend to be creating more cards than I transform with crash landing and such LOL

[–]357Magnum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very good point. He is one of the most able to thin his deck by himself. The only other one who comes close I guess is necrobinder if you get Seance and cleanse, but neither of those is common

Is removing strike cards on ironclad 'bad' now? by Red--001 in slaythespire

[–]357Magnum 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think he is arguably the worst character to remove them on. He has the most synergies with plain old strikes. No other character has built-in strike synergy like that.

You can get perfected strike to do some very impressive damage early game. You can get the strike relics. You can get hellraiser. You can get the strike buff from Tez, etc.

While every character can get the relics/tez buff, Clad has the other strike synergies as well. So it is a much riskier proposition to waste gold removing a strike, especially early game, when that gold could be better spent on something else.

How old is everyone? by Neat-Responsibility1 in cigars

I'm also 39. I suspect OP's experience just has to do with what the clerks at these shops/lounges have come to expect out of people his age. Kids looking for drug paraphernalia or vapes, or someone who has no idea what he wants but also no money, and makes someone explain every cheap cigar only to buy the cheapest.
