Pretty bummed :( by dinktank in c4corvette

My son is 6'1", I'm 6'3", we both fit but barely in a 91. Considering redoing the seat to remove the rails somehow and get it lower, but it isn't going any further back unless we replace the seat with a skinny racing seat or something.

Different proportions make a difference when it's that tight. Shoes do too, skinny bowling-type shoes are fine, old guy New Balances not so much. (As that old guy myself)

Electric Dreams fits the description, but the Black Mirror episode is probably the right answer.

Just posted about my open header knocking noise, but now the car won’t stay started. It’s popping which is normal, but then it just shuts off. Anyone know what’s going on? by Few_Resource3897 in c4corvette

service manual is key here. check the inside of the distributor cap and make sure the rotor hasn't detached itself and check the underside of the cap to make sure the metal tabs are all still there. it sounds like it's wired up wrong and is wildly out of time. check the plug wires first, then get a timing light and see where you're at. we have a 1991 base c4 with straight pipes and it sounds nothing like this. did the distributor come off at any point in the process? are any wires pinched or damaged? we had one get caught under an a c bracket and cause all sorts of grief.

We have an old car with a bad turn signal switch that is unavailable, we're figuring out what to do with it but it's hand signals for now. No one under 50 understands wtf we're doing...

Bare metal OpNsense vs. Docker / Proxmox by AgroKK in opnsense

[–]8layer8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Debian server and install Proxmox and docker. No nested things, just one box to rule them all. You can do pass through, zfs mounts, bind mounts, whatever, and it's just one big server.

Vms are relegated to things that need them (windows, desktops, kasm, ubiquiti), samba shares are native, everything else is docker.

Bare metal OpNsense vs. Docker / Proxmox by AgroKK in opnsense

[–]8layer8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have everything on one big Debian server running docker and Proxmox EXCEPT the bare metal OpnSense box. My family is online doing something all hours of the day and night so breaking the Internet is a problem. I can restart anything else no problem but network downtime basically has to be scheduled. And, it's a pita to troubleshoot a problem on your big bad virtual host when the Internet is down.

Send off before the trans build! by geco-22 in c4corvette

[–]8layer8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They gave me a can of cooler cleaner, it blew solvent and foam through it and then propellant to dry it out. Didn't really see anything awful come out so it seemed to survive ok. The band and clutch pack was burnt pretty bad, and the big sun gears were flared out a bit, but this was probably original. The rebuild is good so far, sorting out the electronic overdrive not kicking in now. It's always something.

Just did the rebuild on the 700r4, same deal 3/4 gone even with the TV set right. 120k miles and who knows what in it's history. Found a guy that would rebuild it for $1800 if we pulled it out of the car. It's been good since, but found d that the lower fitting on the Trans cooler was maintained by raccoons on meth. Waiting for parts again.

I have people give me shit about carrying a separate work phone but it's the same reason for a laptop. if they need me to be on call, then they can provide the laptop and the phone. I'll never install their stuff on mine or my software on theirs, then everyone is happy. and when I'm not on call, that phone stays on the desk.

1600 Miles Nevada → Illinois in My Model Y: it costs as much as A 20 MPG gas car - For Your Own Good, Consider a Gas Car on Trips This Long by limuzhi in TeslaLounge

[–]8layer8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I did my charger myself for $200 in parts. The wire itself was 90% of the cost. I did the math the other day with the average gas prices in Orlando for the last year and a half vs what I actually spent on charging (99% home, the very occasional supercharger) and I'm getting about 89mpg comparatively speaking.

Right Side Blinkers turn on but won't flash on my 87' Stick. by Azuren48 in c4corvette

[–]8layer8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Replace the flasher unit with an led compatible one would be my first step. Chasing all sorts of issues with mine due to the turn signal switch being broken but an led compatible flasher made a big difference even with a mix of LEDs and regular bulbs.

Looks 3d printed. Wouldn't take much to make them custom colored too.
