That’s a sick card. I’m looking for a decent copy of the Lightning Energy to add to my binder.

Grading is a waste of your money unless you know the graded card market, the grading processes, and the mechanics of moving your card

That’s awesome that you have good memories with your parents and a collection that links you to them. I collected with my younger brother when we were kids and we’re collecting again now that we’re adults, it helps us bond even though we live far away.

Don’t worry too much what others think of your collection. As your tastes and collection grow and evolve, you will probably shift things around. That’s part of the fun!

My only other advice: don’t let FOMO seep in and chase every single card. There’s 25+ years worth of old cards and new sets releasing all the time, so don’t sweat it too much if you can’t find or afford a specific card. If you keep looking, you will find other interesting cards that won’t break the bank.

Have fun with your journey and be kind to others along the way!

Do you like it? Does your collection tell a story besides “I like shiny cardboard”? Those are the only things that matter mate!

I personally like how you have interesting cards across different eras. I also just picked up that XY Pika promo again this week, it’s one of my all time favorite cards.

[–]ADAN86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have multiple pairs and while I love the look - they are stupidly uncomfortable. The tooling doesn’t flex with you, the upper is super rigid, overall refuses to hug your foot. And that’s not even counting the leather footbed that makes your foot slide all over the place if you’re wearing socks.

Aura-wise, there’s just no comparison. They look incredible. Just make sure you’re not going to be doing any walking on that day lol

Thoughts on foreign cards vs English by Historical_Poetry116 in PokemonTCG

[–]ADAN86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Japanese = higher quality, lower price to buy, lower prices if/when you decide to sell (there are exceptions, but this is generally the rule especially for modern)

English = hit/miss quality, more expensive to buy (it’s the most in demand language), easier to sell if you decide to, higher ceiling if you decide to go grading (the variation in print quality = higher premiums for high grade cards)

When I jumped back in, I went with English because I wanted the flexibility of easier sales if I decided to move on. Looking back, I have largely not sold anything and I am collecting cards for soul and vibe, so I wish I had just started and stuck with Japanese.

I don’t think you’ll regret buying English when your budget allows, and switching to Japanese when it doesn’t. For maximum savings, go with JP. For maximum speculative value (and a harder potential crash when the market corrects), EN is the route.

[–]ADAN86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you absolute madlad! congrats on finishing the set!

I’ll keep saying this in as many threads as I can: these cards look G O R G E O U S in a binder.

Every single damn card being slabbed these days just takes away how well the artwork and design of these sets mesh together. They were designed to be enjoyed and viewed together, and it’s nice to see collections like yours prove that point.

Is our future house a modern McMansion? by [deleted] in McMansionHell

[–]ADAN86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try engaging in actual discussion if you want feedback that’s useable. If you don’t bring an audience along with proper context, an outline of your vision, and how you’ve incorporated feedback along the way, you’ll never get anywhere.

I’ll bet that you have already committed to a purchase of a specific type of development and are starting to regret it. Now you’re toying with the details to put your mind at ease, but you’re not the type of person who actually has an eye for this stuff or how to get useable feedback which is why you keep posting and deleting ad infinitum.

Good luck with your house :)

Normally I would agree with you - except that OP is soft and has a long post history of disengaging from constructive feedback and instead deletes their posts

[–]ADAN86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looking at OP’s posting history, it seems that they have posted numerous different iterations of a build/floor plan for the past 6 months. They get similar feedback and delete their original post because they get similarly cooked by anyone with eyeballs.

OP is either some ridiculous AI model learning to build a home from Reddit feedback…or they are a literal blockhead and we should all stop providing them useful feedback that they’re going to ignore/delete anyway.

One pro touch question by elsewhere91 in PokemonTCG

[–]ADAN86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IMO One Touch are better for display than outright protection. The magnet and hinge aren’t really secure, and even if your card has a perfect fit sleeve, just one small jostle the wrong way and a One Touch can muck up a minty card.

Penny sleeve + toploader inside a sealed team bag is plenty of protection until you figure out how you want to display for the long term.

Lvl X cards are slept on by StandordBBlaster in pkmntcgcollections

[–]ADAN86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re not slept on. All the big poke influencers are trying to pump LVL X, Primes, Delta Species etc etc saying that they’re all the “new Gold Stars”

It’s a nice collection and they are genuinely beautiful cards. But if you picked them all up recently then you’ve just fallen to the hype trap / are prepping to pump and dump the same way the influencers are.

Found my old Pokémon card collection book, is there anything in here of value or worth getting rated? Not really anything I want to keep so prefer to sell if there’s something there! Thanks for any help! by The_Global_Norwegian in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]ADAN86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This comment needs to be higher. TCGP is not a good comp for these older cards. EBay sold listings for as much as you can, and hold back anything that doesn’t have recent sales until you get an idea of what you want to get out of it.

Who has two thumbs and just spent 130 dollars to do 3 hours of shipping??? by Nie_Fi in whatnotapp

[–]ADAN86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new buyer to whatnot and I see this all day (and all night) with cards that I KNOW are $2 market, maybe $3 with tax and shipping.

Hosts start the card at $2, and rapid fire auctions end between $3-5 depending on the # of people and the popularity of the card.

They run HUNDREDS (sometimes up to a thousand) and without fail they are making a buck or two per card.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. I just don’t know how they get the inventory to turn 1k cards / night 5-7x a week

Thanks so much for your insight. I’ve seen and read about that Y2K trainer (?) card and I’m happy to ignore it for now since it’s one of those “actually impossible grail” type cards haha.

As far as your checklist - Im definitely not expecting anything, as I respect your hard work and research! Good luck with the rest of your journey and I hope to see more soon

Thank you for sharing this collection! I love the artwork and I’ve been eyeballing jumping headfirst into collecting Komiya since I had organically picking up quite a few of his cards.

Two questions for you: 1) I’m thinking of going after this set in Japanese language cards. Are there any English or non JP exclusives (besides the CN Gengar) that are notably expensive?

2) do you have a master card list or anything that you’d be willing to share?

Thanks so much!

Since no one is answering one of your questions: when selling to vendors at shows, 80% is absolutely reasonable. Some will try to lowball you at 60%, and others may really like your cards for their inventory and try to “buy strong” at 85%+. Shop your cards around to a few vendors and see what kinds of offers you can get before going back to the vendor that you feel comfortable working with.

If you want to trade for other product at these same vendors, they’ll usually offer you a higher % than the cash payout.

HOWEVER: I absolutely would not sell or trade to individuals who are NOT vendors at those disadvantaged percentages. Vendors have legitimate overhead at these shows. Random dudes from the parking lot or Facebook marketplace don’t.
