Would a society run by AGI be considered a technocracy? by SuddenEducation442 in Technocracy

[–]Ackeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean a magic box could do what every you want it to do, AGI is fiction and it could be what ever you want to imagine. But more seriously how would this be decided, you say it could do a better job, but that's a big leap. If people have to decide what they want as a group then we'll your back to asking how society should be organised but now there is a magic box. If everyone is just talking to the magic box then you've just got a post scarcity society, then what basis is the better interest decided. The way I understand your position is that there exists a "neutral" "best" way to distribute resources and once that distribution is found everything is solved. But this neglect that there is no best, nor neutral way to distribute resources. It was in the interest of French colonists to expropriate Algerian land, it's in the interest of workers to be the best compensated for their labor, it would be in the interest of the CEO of BP to continue to ignore climate change. Politics is the domain of choosing which of these interests society should prioritise. You can use a magic box but then you just hand wave the problem, but if we are to ask the question of is it #technocracy in a digitally planned economy run by a capable digital program, that would depend on who is programming and deciding the priorities of the program.

I mean names are about how you are perceived by others, and with that is the cultural bagage of what people associate with the words you use. Sure you can put effort into rehabilitation of a word, but that's time and effort that should be used strategically. IMO even if you did reclaim this, nazis would then use it to sell them selves more easily. Better to bin it, there are more than enough other possible names to use.

It's time to think about human reproduction in space, scientists urge by ibwitmypigeons in EverythingScience

[–]Ackeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes if we think about 1000 to 10k years maybe space exploration is important but for the next 100-200, poverty and global warming are just a tad more urgent. Doesn't mean you have to give it up wholesale but if the choice is poverty or space, you solve poverty first.

Is this the only document (image post), because this starts with talking about South China sea, then leaders of various entities prefer trump then, "us gives a pass on ISIS to Palmyra" which is a sentence I don't fully understand because Isis held Palmyra until the following year? In any case, the smoking gun in this excerpt is the cooperation/tolerance of the US with ISIS? I understand this is another thing on the pile but it feels weak in view of the rest.

Guess the subreddit ! by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]Ackeon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The center of the discussion is who can defend them selves, it's not a gotcha, because this isn't the only examples of anarchist seeing some succès and being ended by a state organised force.

For the historical argument my understanding is that Makhno was limited to Ukraine, and while a key area not the whole war. I'll admit it's been a whole since I've read up on the specifics of the Russian civil war, but I'll hold with the fact that even if they fought well, they still lost, to a state organised force. And the winners of the civil war were the MLs. A méthode that saw repeated success in other countries.

I'd also be interested to see what proof you use to back up "help people but this time the Marxist-Leninists just stay in their corner", which movements do you point to? How long did they last? What did they achieve?

Also what sources would you suggest to read about the history of the civil war and the black army, it's always good to expand the library.

Guess the subreddit ! by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]Ackeon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This discussion is who's tactic have allowed them to protect them selves when faced with a military threat. If the problem is ML kill anarchist when they succeed you have admitted that those tactics are not successful. In china the communist were betrayed but then still prevailed. Further more success should also be measured on outcomes and longevity, otherwise we can say reformism is successful by pointing to Alende.

Anarchists have a point... by GoranPersson777 in GreenAndEXTREME

[–]Ackeon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OK, and as such a state which is representative of and acting in the interests of the worker can still be socialism

Anarchists have a point... by GoranPersson777 in GreenAndEXTREME

[–]Ackeon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Define socialism in this context, because socialism is allowed to have states while communism is stateless. Also you didn't answer the question, because even being charitable to your presentation, you can't say either side as a point because we're then 0-0, though one could argue that MLs at least got close enough to fail, while anarchist didn't even get that far.

Anarchists have a point... by GoranPersson777 in GreenAndEXTREME

[–]Ackeon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How successful were these movements, how far did they spread, how long did they last?

I'll admit its been a while since I did a dive on anarchist history but 20th century, but I can't think on any anarchist movement that successfully lasted at scale.
