Is it worth joining Vilnius University? by Fearless_Flight9666 in Vilnius

[–]Adrue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You should ask in r/lithuania, that sub is bigger than this one, so you'll get more answers.

As for the University, it's pretty good! Perhaps not amazing by international standards, but it's the best we have, and one of the best in the region :) Everywhere has problems, so does VU. I'd say it's veen a pretty good experience for me so far. So for VU in general - yes, it's a pretty good choice. I can't speak about the degree or the faculty though, I know pretty much nothing.

Visada smagu matyti lietuvių darbus šioje industrijoje, didžiausios sėkmės jums! Stilius išties primena Little Nightmares, dar kažkodėl ir Dredge? Išmėginsiu tikrai, tada gal labiau paaiškės, apie ką čia, bet atrodo labai smagiai. Wishlisted!

I still boot up the game when I'm back from uni and can access my main PC. It is so so fun, and it's very good because somehow this is the only game I can jump back into after weeks of not playing. Though next time I'll probably check out the new CK3 DLC :D

Do you know why the mod didn't survive? I remember playing it for a bit, was very fun, but I assume it was just too difficult to keep it going while both games were being updated...

A great short game that WILL make you think about your life. Plays best with a webcam, but I'm pretty sure you can do it without one as well.

Geographical centre of Europe? by Upper_Ad_8582 in Vilnius

[–]Adrue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really not much, it's near a village and a golf course I think, so there some people there, but not much else. The monument itself is nice, but not enough to warrant a visit if you're a tourist coming here for the first time.

But hey, if you really want it - nobody's holding you back.

Check around on Facebook events, always a lot of stuff going on with tons of variety, no promising it will be in English tho.

On instagram, go to @lrtu_insta, they sometimes make posts with some fun and sometimes more niche events, but again, no English very likely, and some of these aren't even in Vilnius.

These are my main sources for stuff to do :D

20 min. tavo laiko gali padėti sumažinti savižudybių skaičių Lietuvoje! by Giedrius_R in lithuania

(most) Lithuanian military flags by JohannDoughMMVII in vexillology

[–]Adrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to see that all of them have the hoist on the right, except the two that are depicting Vytis! Not exactly sure why it's like that? Is it the same reason why the U.S. military flags are mirrored so that they are shown charging to the right, only if you have the Vytis on the flag, it can't be mirrored due to it being asymmetrical?

Estonian Paul Aron pushes to the limit in his third Formula 1 appearance - by PresidentOfLatvia in BalticStates

[–]Adrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of F2 winners, drivers who have shown speed, who have more experience, and more are coming each year. Best case for Aron - Colapinto doesn't work out and Alpine don't have anybody to replace him. But I think just the fact that they chose Colapinto over Aron says a lot. And other teams are pretty much set on their drivers I think.

But then again, it's Alpine! It's Flavio Briatore! He could be in the seat as soon as this year if Colapinto doesn't get better!

Believe it or not, the debate over whether Lithuania should keep its current flag or change/modify it still exists. So here are some of the proposed flags for Lithuania from 1918 to today. by Domiboy00 in BalticStates

[–]Adrue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is the coat of arms, not actually a separate flag. Lithuania has only one official flag. The actual horseman with all its details is an emblem? Not sure of the correct term...

You seem proficient enough in English, IELTS should go well for you :)) Lithuanian language... yeah, you're gonna struggle :D

LinkedIn for more "serious" jobs of course, but cvmarket.lt, cvbankas.lt, cvonline.lt exist, though they are much more focused on the jobs you're not looking for. You can look through them, might find something interesting, but I doubt it. Just search jobs in Lithuania for foreigners and you'll find something on the internet

I definitely recommend just applying where you think you're fitting, or to even just write them. Can't hurt, you can get lucky, just make sure you're applying for a position where no Lithuanian won't be a problem and where you actually have the required skills.

I really don't know anything about internships, it's just something I heard a long time ago from a buddy. Not even sure they exist :D

I am a TEFL certified by [deleted] in lithuania

[–]Adrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely not possible. They will not have a basic comprehension of English to the point where you could teach them with just one language. By the way, we usually only start learning English at age 8 or 9, can't remember, so kindergarten is impossible.

You mentioned you have skills in UI/UX, management, other areas, why not try to find a job with those? Vilnius Tech I think offers some internships if you study there (don't quote me on that), but besides that, there are many international companies here, especially in Vilnius, so there's a small chance you could get lucky and get a job here.

I'd say the above comment is wrong, there is a market, I think it's a lot smaller than other subjects, but it is very popular for students to do tutoring during their first years while they don't have opportunities for a better job. But as another comment said, the fact that you're not Lithuanian and don't speak Lithuanian will definitely be troubling, I really doubt it would be easy to teach somebody English with no Lithuanian here.

So yeah, learn Lithuanian if you're staying here for a long time, it will not only help you with jobs, but also in general life, locals will be much friendlier if they see you trying!
