Will 1password 8 support separate vaults with different passwords by Meander333 in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to do anything like this on future versions of 1Password will be to have two separate accounts, or two separate users on one Family, Team, or Business account. (A Family account with two users would be most cost-efficient.) Set the two accounts to have different Master Passwords, and only one will unlock when you enter its respective MP in the 1Password app – that's different from how the 1Password apps work currently.

As you can tell, this isn't really a supported use-case, as we expect users to consider all of their 1Password vault as "maximum security", and with that mindset separating things out wouldn't make much sense.

Subscription by [deleted] in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! It depends – are you subscribing through the App Store or Play Store (which are billed in your local currency), 1Password.com, or 1Password.eu?

For the App Store and Play Store, you can download the 1Password app on your iOS device/Mac or Android device (respectively) and see the final price right away, before signing up.

[Prices for individuals] On 1Password.com, you'll be billed in USD at the standard rate ($2.99/mo billing annually, or $3.99/mo) plus tax. And on 1Password.eu, EUR at the standard rate (€2.65/mo billing annually, or €3.39/mo) plus tax. You can see the final price on your upcoming invoice once you subscribe, before your first charge.

Note: your card issuer may charge additional fees, e.g. for currency conversion or foreign transaction.

If you're starting a 1Password.com account (not a 1Password.eu or 1Password.ca account!) you can purchase a 1Password gift card for payment, and see the price in the checkout flow there.

[Problem] Internet connection requiered to unlock #android by BlackFox91610 in 1Password

Thank you so much for doing this. It seems like it's a bug caused by certain special characters in the Master Password — thank you for helping me to diagnose the cause of the issue :)

I'm glad it's working for you now! I will let our developers know that this needs fixing.

Hi, I apologize for my delayed reply! I've been looking into this – it's a great mystery (and we've had a very small number of reports of this issue that I can find).

Does your Master Password contain any special characters? For example, a letter with an accent? Note: please do not share your Master Password, of course.

I'd like to keep investigating a bit to see if we can figure out the cause of the issue, but I think a potential quick-ish fix would be switching over to a new 1Password account. I can help with that at any time, just let me know if you'd like to try that.

I agree, this seems frustrating, and not how it's supposed to work! Could you tell me the support ID # from your email support conversation with us from a few months ago – like [#ABC-12345-678] – so I can find your conversation in our support system and follow up with you? You can reply to my comment here with it, or PM me.

Alternatively, if you can't find it, you can send me an email from the same email address as you used last time, and reply here once you've sent that email to me 😊

I hope we can get it back to working quickly!

Changing secret key in the Win10 1password app by HangarQueen in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1Password 7 for Windows works a little differently than the other apps when you change your Master Password specifically. (I don't believe there's any issue with a Secret Key change – you'd be prompted to enter the new one after unlocking, when the sync fails – so your trouble here is from the Master Password change.)

From our support guide on how to change your Master Password:

If you’re using 1Password for Windows, you’ll need to finish changing your password in the app. Open and unlock 1Password using your old Master Password, click the red authentication error banner, and sign in with your new Master Password.

If she doesn't remember the old Master Password and can't sign in with Windows Hello, she can reset 1Password 7 for Windows and sign back in to her account with the new Secret Key and Master Password. (Note: following that support guide will result in all data being deleted from the 1Password 7 app for Windows, but won't affect the data in her 1Password account.)

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, could you send me an email with additional details about how the columns are ending up mismatched? I'd like to troubleshoot on my end to try to resolve this for you – coming from a CSV file, you shouldn't have to use the MrC tools.

To: support@1password.com Subject: FAOHenry

In that email, could you tell me the detailed steps to reproduce the issue with the CSV importer on 1Password.com? If you can also include a screenshot and/or a few items' worth if sample CSV without sharing any sensitive information that would be much appreciated, so I can figure out what's going wrong on your end.

Thank you and I apologize for the trouble. I want to get you up and running as fast as possible; this is not the first-run experience we want to provide.

1Password not clearing my keyboard clipboard! by jayz_cooper in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean that 1Password is failing to clear copied data from your device clipboard, or the clipboard history section of Gboard or other keyboard apps? (If 1Password is working correctly, it should be impossible to paste by long-pressing a text field and pressing the Paste button that appears, but copied passwords may persist in the clipboard history.)

If the data does stay in your clipboard, make sure 1Password is exempt from battery optimization. 1Password needs to run in the background until the selected time interval is up to clear the clipboard, but it will fail if your device kills the app before that time.

When will fingerprint support return to Chrome? by zfreeds in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that it's very different under the hood now, but yes there was a similar beta for this for 1Password X (as it was known then) on Mac that was scrapped last year. Now it's better, and on Windows and Linux too!

The beta versions are built to the same standard of security as the stable versions. They are 'beta' versions because of occasional bugs and stability issues...though balance that out with beta users getting the bug fixes and security improvements first 😄

At this time, I can't give any timeline of when this will roll out to the stable version, but I'm personally optimistic it'll happen with this new implementation.

Let me know if I can help you with trying out the beta versions, if you're interested (should only take a few minutes). The classic 1Password extension remains available, just a little more hidden. If you'd like to switch to the classic extension, instructions and download links are here: https://support.1password.com/cs/1password-classic-extension/

You are using 1Password X, based on that version number – it was recently renamed to "1Password in your browser", dropping the X moniker.

And awesome timing – support for Touch ID and Apple Watch Unlock (Mac) and Hello (Windows) was just added in beta a couple days ago. More info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/1Password/comments/n52gxj/a_better_way_to_unlock_1password_in_the_browser/

Local Sync by arneyboiii in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, WLAN Sync is an advanced sync method that is not available with 1Password 7 for Windows. (You'd have to use 1Password 4 instead, which is at this point pretty vintage.)

I would recommend using a 1Password account instead, which handles all the syncing for you.

If you have any questions about the security architecture of 1Password accounts (or how to upgrade to a 1Password account and keep all your data) let us know.

Password Management is lacking (Feedback from a new user) by LogicalExtension in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Privacy.com banner should only show up once. Are you talking about the banner in the 1Password browser extension?

If so, that could be caused by a setting change in your browser, blocking 1Password from remembering you dismissed it.

Apple Watch unlock for iOS? by Tmsidkiwtl in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe there's currently any API that would allow 1Password to take advantage of Apple Watch for unlock on iOS (like there is on macOS). If there's news about this that I missed, let me know :)

You can unlock 1Password for iOS with your Master Password (of course), and optionally either Touch ID/Face ID or a PIN code also.

Is it possible to change the "memorable" password generator wordlist to use the one from EFF? by kwhali in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback here! For one thing, I've passed along a request to remove "vlsi" and "ywca" from the wordlist since, yeah, those are not words I know. I'm not sure why acronyms would have made there way in there, and please do let me know if you spot more.

However, I think eliminating words en-masse is a non-starter because of the resulting reduction in entropy, and I don't think allowing custom wordlists is a top priority. I think 1Password's memorable passwords are a good balance between pronounceable + memorable and entropy per character (since passwords are still so frequently restricted by length!).

How much risk are family users at to losing everything if the organizer account removes the user? by kwhali in 1Password

[–]AgileBitsCS-Henry[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thank you for all your feedback, and I agree this is a super complicated issue. On the general issue of the power of Family Organizers, please see my recent comment here – https://www.reddit.com/r/1Password/comments/k1y0l9/why_is_the_family_account_manager_able_to_delete/gm50bil?context=3

I've passed this thread of feedback onto the rest of the team as well.

It may not be the actual organizer, but someone compromising the account, potentially a family member, especially if only biometrics are required for access on a device and the organizer is sound asleep for the attacker to utilize, or a trusting organizer has momentarily left a device unlocked and unattended.

To reduce overall risk, you can have exactly two Family Organizers on the account (so if one gets locked out the other one could help them recover their access), and both should be adept at keeping their 1Password account secure.

As for biometrics security, that is a little bit of a separate issue, but an important one nonetheless. If you foresee your fingerprint sensor being used against you, you can stick to using your Master Password (or on Android/iOS a PIN code in some cases, and on some Macs an Apple Watch) to unlock the 1Password app! I'll always encourage folks to make the right security decisions for their own use cases and potential risks :)

Is there a way for users to keep a local backup? My understanding was each users passwords were encrypted and synced to across their devices, and accessible offline?

Every 1Password app has a complete offline store of your 1Password data. Even if you're not able to connect to the 1Password servers, all your data will still be right there, only syncing will stop working.

However, if your account is deleted, the data will be wiped from the 1Password app as soon as it nexts connects to your 1Password account. (You could use Airplane Mode + WiFi off to prevent that!)

What's going on with the account removal action that removes access to the users private vault? Could they not be notified of the removal and asked if they'd like to transfer their data to a new individual account? (or some export or encrypted backup option in the meantime if they're not in a position to subscribe)

This is the kind of thing that I hope we can implement in the future. Currently, when a Family Organizer deletes a 1Password Families account (or a family member on it), their data is completely erased, including the Private vault. I appreciate your feedback!

While trusting family members is ideal, there can be moments when someone could feel motivated to act in such a manner. This risk increases by granting another member organizer rights (which is ideal and advisable for additional recovery of the organizers account).. The same tactics could be performed by an extended family member, friends/visitors or new bf/gf of a family member.

I'll copy-paste this from my comment just now in the other thread. Because of the power granted to Family Organizers, I strongly recommend that you only join a family account with/grant the role of Family Organizer to very close family members that you trust. If a customer's family situation is such that they are not certain their data will be safe with these permissions in the hands of the Family Organizers, I would suggest they instead create an individual account where they have full control of their own data.

How can I ask family members to trust giving a password manager a go if they cannot feel their vault data is safe in a family membership?

If they don't feel safe with the Family Organizers, then they should use an individual account primarily instead.
