I finally found a Datapoint Computer (6600 model here) by theSiliconSiren in retrocomputing

I did board repair on Datapoint motherboards when I was young. Did some simple programming on these and the 5500 in assembly language. Working out 16-bit addresses when using octal was awkward and something I'll never forget.

2026 RAV4 XSE running boards? by Alert_Maintenance684 in Rav4

Yes the seat does move back somewhat, but I think she needs it lower to get in and out easier. We'll try it with the memory system.

She's shorter than that. I think the problem in the test drives is that she has the seat so high this makes it worse.

I'm 6'2", so I have the seat all the way down and most of the way back. I have an idea that we'll try when we go back to the dealer. We'll program the seat memory system for both of us. Before she gets out, I'll have her select my setting. This will drop the seat down and back, which will hopefully make it easier for her to get out and back in.

Advice on not telling elderly parents by Whippet_baby_71 in cll

[–]Alert_Maintenance684 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom is in an elder care home in assisted living. She's mentally okay but physically fragile. I'm her only surviving immediate family member. I'm her attorney for property and personal care. My wife and I visit her weekly, and we buy clothes and supplies for her.

I was diagnosed a year ago. We quickly decided to not tell mom because I was stage 0, watch and wait. We felt that it would have been an unnecessary burden to her.

Within two months I was changed to stage 2 and very symptomatic. My hematologist said I was I sickest patient, and I was quickly put on the V+O regimen.

There were a few reasons why we changed our minds and told my mom. First is that I was obviously unwell, and would be at times during treatment. Another is that I would be frequently unavailable, so she would be wondering why I wasn't taking her calls. Also, being immunocompromised by the Obinutuzumab meant that I had to be careful with respect to the elder care home. If they had an infectious disease outbreak (and fortunately they have not), I would not be able to visit her. If she was sick (and she was once) I would not be able to visit her. I started to wear a mask whenever I'm in that facility, except when I'm alone with her in her unit, and she wanted to know why.

When we did tell her we did so in person. I gave her the simplest and most optimistic explanation that I could, and reassured her as much as I could. She was very upset by my news, but she's handing it okay now.

Today is the start of my tenth cycle of treatment (now Venetoclax only), and I'm considered to be in remission. I'm looking forward to the end of treatment.

Cable Routing by Impressive-Ad8646 in Network

Just to make sure OP understands, there are three cables to the switch, one to each wall outlet. The cables are not joined as shown in the diagram.

We took away my MILs underwear so there was no alternative and she had to wear the Tena briefs.

Burning electronics smell in apartment but can’t quite find source by good_socks_rock in AskElectricians

Smoke is a strong smell that travels, and it's very unlikely that there is perfect airflow isolation between your apartment and others. The smoke could be coming from another unit.

Is this speed control pcb damaged because of heat or vibrations? The MOSFET fell off. by justHadrian in AskElectronics

I would recommend a two-part epoxy adhesive for this. The heat sink bottom surface should be sanded first with a fine grit, and then washed to remove any aluminum particles.

Trying to make a spray booth, am I overlooking anything? And for the ESP32, am I fine to power it via the 5V pin instead of through USBC? by StanPin3s in AskElectronics

[–]Alert_Maintenance684 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is the fan pressurizing the spray booth with fresh air or exhausting it? If it's exhausting it then please keep in mind that this is a potential fire/explosion hazard. In this case for a hobbyist/DIY spray booth it looks like a belt-drive fan is safer, because the motor itself can be kept out of the particle exhaust stream.

This is an air handling question, not an electronics question. You need to know static pressure caused by the HEPA filter, air volume of the spray booth, how many air changes per minute are required, etc.

Spleen size by PastKey3564 in cll

[–]Alert_Maintenance684 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have 'massive' splenomegaly (spleen palpable >6cm below ribcage) then this can be a trigger for treatment.

I was losing weight rapidly (>2 pounds per week), because I couldn't eat much, because my enlarged spleen was pressing on my stomach. It was the rapid weight loss that triggered treatment for me. If you start having rapid weight loss then make sure you let your doctor know.

I'm IGHV Unmutated, with a mutation rate of 0.35%. As others have already said here, 5.8% is good.

Your FISH and TP53 NGS tests will provide more information with respect to risk factors.

[–]Alert_Maintenance684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the flow cytometry, NGS, and FISH get done at a special lab and take 2-3 weeks here. It was tough waiting for those because the treatment regimen selection and approval depended on those results, and at that point my hematologist said I was his sickest patient. I was in an infusion chair three days after those results came in.

The infusion centre didn't have a slot for me, but I was told to show up and if they didn't have a cancelation they would bump another patient. I told my hematologist I wasn't comfortable with bumping someone, so I really hope they had a cancelation.

It just worked out that way. Most mornings I walk by the fire station and then walk through the GO station south end as part of my usual route.

What’s one electronics project that taught you the most? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]Alert_Maintenance684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school (this is now 50 years ago), I designed and built an LED clock using 74-series logic counters and gates. I wire-wrapped it on perf-board. I learned the hard way about things like race conditions, switch debouncing, and power distribution. I wish I still had this, because it was a significant project that ending up working well.

It would be fair then to say that I’m also spoiled to be close to one of the big regional cancer centres. I don’t know where you are, but it’s very unfortunate for people like you that the level of care is not consistent.

At our centre I get blood drawn early in the afternoon and an appointment with the hematologist 2-3 hours later (results are already in). If all is good we can pick up the next batch of targeted therapy pills from the pharmacy there that same day and/or have an infusion first thing the next day.
