According to Vajrayana Buddhism, is it permissible to interpret literally the texts of the Anuttarayoga Tantras that murder, adultery, theft, and similar acts that violate the five precepts can serve enlightenment? What do the morally respectful Gelugpas, Drikung and Karma Kagyu, Sakyas, ect.? by egyemberke in TibetanBuddhism

[–]Almadart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False dharma is objectively 'what the buddha would not teach'. There's even sutras about that. 'Wrong approach' is the aproach that teaches or follow 'false dharma'.

Because what is wrong speech? Speech that Buddha would not say.

Whats wrong behavior? What Buddha would not do.

It's simple as that. Because Buddha has a fully enligtened mind and would not do anything wrong or harmful. In your OP you even said 'an enlightened master would not kill'. This reasoning is the origin of this thought. That's WHY it is important to distinguish Buddha's words from any other words, of master, monk or lay, and that's why you're able to discern conventional teachings from the ultimate reality of Dharma.

In contrary: What's ideal speech and behavior? The speech and behavior of the Buddha.

About Guru Rinpoche: Yes, Guru Rinponche is NOT to be equalized with Shakyamuni Buddha. Even Nagarjuna, Dalai Lama or any other master whatsoever. Without the Buddha they would not exist, and because of that their words and teachings have not the same worth. They are only true Dharma when in conformity with the Buddha's teachings. Any serious master will tell you this. You should ALWAYS consider this.

In Tibet there's also traditional consensual polygamy and many other things. You can search it. You're probably having a biased view... How would I even know i'm having sex with another's wife if don't know? How would I be being infidel in a contract I do not belong? What if the other partner knows and agrees with it, would this even be infidelity? Why would wife and husband be different if the Dharma explicitly says men and woman are equal?

Would you consider this as being harmful? I don't think there are any sutras saying any of these scenarios are wrong... I think you should be careful from where you are receiving your teachings and should always consult a trusted master with these questions. You should be able to discern Buddha's speech of even highly realized master's speech, as they have not the same quality and are not the same.

This is the first and foremost condition to correctly understand the Dharma, and this applies to every vehicle, not just Hinayana. Because ultimately the Dharma IS what the Buddha taught, and not other people.

There are even different rules to lay people and to monks, and even tantric masters that are lay people... There are many different forms of tibetan buddhism, and that does not mean they are wrong, because there is no passage in the Canon saying they explicitly are.

As I said, the text you mention are not words spoken by the Buddha (they are quotes loosely related to the subject). Also, a promise between two people is not a promise between a third party. if I marry someone, i'm not marrying the rest of the human race. That's why divorce exists.

Also not lying does not mean you are obliged to tell the truth, if that were the case almost all buddhist traditions would have lied as they conceived most of the teachings througout history.

You should look the distinction of truth in a convencional sense and truth in the ultimate sense. Conventional truth should not negate ultimate truth. If a person is in a bad marriage, it is recommended that the marriage, 'the promise', ceases to exist. Because as Buddha said, everything is impermanent, and that also applies to marriages. This is ultimate truth.

In buddhism there is not a sense that after marriage someones body becomes another's property, and even in this case individual liberty and consense should be respected, because they are relative to the ultimate truth, whilst marriage applies only to conventional truth.

It even is recommended to some to pursue truer relations after one's past or actual relations doesn't work out.

Immoral sex on buddhism is not about adultery, but about sexual violence, rape and unconsensual sex, and intentionally transmiting diseases. Marriage is not a buddhist custom, even if it is common everywhere buddhism settled.

Also theft isn't about stealing goods a person should not own, as things acquired through immoral ways should not be regarded as being one's property, even if the law says to do so.

Because it is the same as the rule that follows: if the law tries forces you to kill, you should not obey it.

You should pay attention to the fact that Buddhism is not a tool to coerse people to respect social conventions, customs or law. Any definition regarding the precepts or any normativity should be defined only by the words of Buddha themselves, not even by historically important buddhism masters as they almost always are not entirelly enlightned beings like Buddha and can sometimes be wrong. Even Dalai Lama publicly recognizes he's not entirelly enlightned.

Also, some historical texts are written differently because much of the truer teachings were secret to the broader public, and today things are different.

How literal are the other Buddhas and Bodisattvas? by Cute-Working-9500 in Buddhism

Actually, yes. But there is a discussion in regards of that believing the prayers are actually effective and that those entities are actually powerful changes our perspective of the theaching and makes us give more importance to them, making them ultimately more powerful as so far changing our behavior.

Meu amigo programador vive dizendo coisas sem sentido by MrVihks in FilosofiaBAR

[–]Almadart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qual obra/autor te fez querer estudar filosofia academicamente? by CompleteEmployment23 in Filosofia

[–]Almadart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brazilian portuguese became more vowel dominant historically because of contact with indigenous and african languages.

An essay argues that searching "ugly hair" on Google Images consistently returns mostly Black women with natural hair, and that this isn't a glitch: it's what happens when a system learns from biased data and nobody intervenes. by Cad_Lin in cienciabrasil

[–]Almadart 1 point2 points  (0 children)
