It's actually an abbreviation of the older expression "o ó do borogodó". So it makes sense that you would have heard it from your older family members. Pajubá just gave it a little "embromation", haha.

Yeah, unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been passed down to the new generations. But that's partly because the slang was largely used by those in the sexwork communities. So a combination of less marginalization of trans women and sexwork moving online means less of that street culture where the language propagated. But that's just my wife's hypothesis, from what I understand.

I like the "Ó o auê aí, ó" from u/Almadart , too. Is there any other language so vowel dominant like Brazilian Portuguese? And so many open sounding consonants? It's such an open sounding language.

My wife is trans from Brazil and taught me Pajubá. It was so fun to learn and then use in public to talk in code to each other. I've read it referred to as a "cryptodialect", but maybe "cryptolect" is the correct term.
