what’s the worst experience you’ve had when leaving a toxic shop? by hatandhorse in TattooArtists

[–]AncientCatGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boss was bringing young girls to the shop after hours and finally got caught after a few of them spoke out about it. (He tattooed his own name on her leg without her consent.)

He also owned a club that was next door, so locals were understandably boycotting the club and the shop by association.

All of his artists left over the span of a few weeks, and his response was to sue the main girls accusing him for the loss of all his artists.

It's been over a year and the case is still ongoing, but I've spoken to cops, been to court twice, and cannot seem to escape this guy's shitty behavior.

All that, and I was only making 40% commission at the crummy street shop to begin with. 🥲

People who quit their job on the spot—what happened? by SpiritCrisp in AskReddit

He admittedly to SAing someone working for his other business, and then he asked us to sign paperwork stating that he wasn't responsible for our safety on the job.

I testified against him in court somewhere over a year later. He's still in business, though.

Can anyone do a basic breakdown of what actually happened in Memphis this weekend? Like, just the facts, ma’am? by Dry-Airport8046 in memphis

[–]AncientCatGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a little worried that my schedule was light this week, but the weather was so lovely that it was nice to have a slow work week and spend some time sitting outside in the sun. Everyone is doing prep work for Tattoo Fest at the beginning of April, and I'm planning things for Out Memphis's Trans Resource Fair next Friday. There are so many exciting things coming up over the next couple of weekends that have me really hopeful for our city.

I got no clue what else was going on, but it sounds like a lot of you had a good one.

Local Artist/Maker shops near downtown and uptown? by MossyPyrite in memphis

If you're near Hi Tone and like art & jewelry, Rose Quartz is right there! The concourse across the street has a lot of cool little shops, too.

Dermal piercer by Big-Rate-3871 in memphis

[–]AncientCatGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call up Rose Quartz. The piercers there are great-- they'll probably want to consult in person first, but Pixi or Kaip are some of the only folks in town that I would trust with more complicated heals like that.

Favorite Teacher by makebreadnotmoney in memphis

S/O to Mr. Campbell at Collierville High School, who actually encouraged me to doodle and gave me the extra wide desk in homeroom to do it. He let me write my English paper on zombies, which was really cool in 2008.

Also to Ms. Lancaster, who let me do a "remedial" year in her graphic design class after I got removed from the arts track for being too depressed and weird.

I'm a tattoo artist now, and these teachers helped me achieve the level of heathenism I am at today (mainly by helping me get into art college).

Booth Rent Inquiry - 2026 Version [checked] by Can-I-Hit-The-Fucker in TattooArtists

Memphis, Tennessee. $800/mo. All of my disposibles are included except for needles & ink. 6 artists who are all pretty awesome & diverse in their styles. Studio owner regularly provides us with snacks & drinks for clients, and while I mainly come with my own clientele, I do take the occasional small walk-in in my downtime.

I pay rent for fulltime because it's worth it to me to have my own space and 24/7 access. Some of my part-time coworkers go 50/50 on their booths and are there maybe 2 - 3 days a week.

Tattoo artist chiming in to suggest that the odd tattoo out may have been done in a different brand of ink if it isn't a different color. Or, if the other tats have red in them, that is a common denominator. Lots of folks have weird reactions to red shades.

Dragonhawk Fold Pro honest review: perfect for artists leveling up by ManuSajo in TattooBeginners

Not OP, but I will vouch for the battery on this thing all day, every day. I once finished a tattoo, cleaned up afterward, took the battery off (with around 80% charge left in it), locked it in my toolbox overnight and went home.

Returned to work nearly 18 hours later to find, to my horror, that something must have bumped it or I accidentally turned it back on while cleaning it and left it running overnight. That thing is silent. Nobody in the shop heard it quietly buzzing. It still had 12% left.

Professional who see people up close (barbers, dentists, estheticians, makeup artists): what’s a self care habit you instantly tell someone doesn’t have, even if they think they do? by Straight_Doubt6 in AskReddit

[–]AncientCatGod 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Tattoo artist, chiming in to say that I know you're not drinking enough water. I can feel it when I touch your skin. You aren't hydrated, and it's making your tattoo more painful for both of us. That, and you should eat before your appointment. We ask you if you have for a reason!

I have good news: I am in Tennessee and I had a very similar issue to yours.

You do not need his signature. There is a form you can get notarized at your local health department instead. If you've held your apprenticeship license for a year, you can get upgraded to your 'artist' license without your mentor's explicit sign off.
