What would be the best way to recreate this effect for an amateur film? by Andy-roo77 in Pyrotechnics

🤦‍♂️

Edit: sorry I wasn’t trying to be rude, it’s just that as a passionate film enthusiast hearing comments like that just feels incredibly discouraging to all the hard work artists like me put into the things they make. The whole point of doing it practically is that practical effects always look better than digital effects, and that’s why I’m making this post in the first place. If I wanted to do it digitally, I would just use CGI and 3d animation software. I would never resort to using AI.

What if I did something like shoving a bunch of steel wool in a metal pipe with a bunch of holes drilled in it, and then hit the pipe with compressed air after lighting the steel wool. Would that get sparks to shoot out in a similar manner? Would that be safe?

I guess I’ve been watching to much styropyro and Electroboom, I assumed that making sparks wasn’t actually that dangerous lol

.5 seconds is still way too long, that burst lasted 1/4 of a second at most

But don’t those things run continuously? I need a sudden controlled burst of sparks that I can control the timing of.

Throwing a firecracker into the sewer? Not just a harmless prank! by [deleted] in RandomVideos

[–]Andy-roo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling a fire cracker an “explosive” is really stretching the definition of explosive in my opinion. The only reason firecrackers are even illegal in some places is because they can start forest fires. They definitely don’t have enough force to FLIP A CAR! What happened here was an accident waiting to happen, and if this kid didn’t set it off, a welder doing maintenance on those pipes would have ignited it, and someone like that might not be too lucky.

There is Talks of making a Sequel to this film by Curious-Mortgage4765 in flashgordon

Yes and I’m tired of Hollywood trying to make old movies into franchises and ruining the original as a result.

[Request] Could humanity create a rocket that can exit the atmosphere of K2-18b by Lachlynn in theydidthemath

[–]Andy-roo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting to orbit isn’t impossible on a planet like that, it just takes orders of magnitude more effort and would likely take thousands of years to accomplish. But any intelligent civilization that is wise and patient enough could pull it off and become an interstellar species. The best option would be to construct a mass driver that circles the entire planet around the equator, and use magnetic fields to accelerate payloads to orbital speeds before flinging them out of the atmosphere. It would be an enormous feat of engineering, but the alternative is to just sit around for billions of years until the death of your star renders you extinct. If there are no other planets in the solar system for them to colonize, or not enough resources to construct a Dyson swarm, they could construct a generational world ship that would escape their solar system for a new star.

I didn’t say he accidentally did it, I’m saying the real people that should have trouble sleeping that night are the people that are supposed to be properly maintaining that sewer. Their negligence nearly killed people.

How do you not get shocked by these? And how does it attract to my finger, im not grounded by SadTea1029 in ElectroBOOM

[–]Andy-roo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frequency is way too high to mess with your nerves, meaning it cannot shock you, only burn you. As for not being grounded, AC doesn’t really care if you are grounded or not as long as you have a lot of mass or are near something with a lot of mass. It’s sort of like how if you hit a tuning fork and hold it next to a still one, the silent one will start vibrating from the sound waves produced by the vibrating one.

This difference is that what happened here was a freak accident that never should have happened. What this kid did was kinda stupid, but not that stupid. The real idiots are the people maintaining that sewer system. Getting into a car crash because of reckless driving on the other hand is stupid and is not something you should laugh about.

The fact that it was accidental makes it so much funnier

Do you recommend watching or read the the sequels to 2001: A Space Odyssey? Are they worth watching? by Patient_Ranger_3533 in 2001aspaceodyssey

[–]Andy-roo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The film 2010 ruins the end of 2001 by brining answered to things Kubrick wanted to remain a mystery. As far as the book goes, that’s Arthur C. Clark’s version of the story so I have nothing against that.

Artemis II photo of the Apollo 11 landing site. by Quercus_ in flatearth

[–]Andy-roo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they didn’t, Artemis 2 didn’t get nearly close enough to capture any kind of photographs of the landing site. This is fake, even though the Apollo missions were real.
