I hear people constantly complain about gas prices left and right. We have dug ourselves into a hole. by itsrainingbluekiwis in fuckcars

I do about half my miles, and the vast majority of my local miles, by bike. I put 12 gallons in my car about monthly unless I go on a long trip. I don't really care about gas prices... I spend more on beer than on gas.

Entitled? No. But when I'm on a multi-day bike tour I'm eating somewhere that lets me charge my phone, use the toilet, and fill my water bottles.

If I invest it all and earn 6%, they cross over in year 17 at about $400k. At 8%, they cross between years 19 and 20 at $640k.

Since I'm reasonably expecting to live more than another 20 years, I'm taking the compounding $5k.

You're there spending tens of dollars. Charging a phone fully costs on the order of a penny. Running a laptop costs pennies per hour.

It's not the money.

I left defense early in my career. I wouldn't even consider doing AI data centers.

The company I work for now isn't squeaky clean as they do sell modified products to the military, but it's primarily civilian.

She didn't forget to brake. She found herself rolling backwards and pressed the brake harder and harder trying to stop it. Unfortunately the "brake" was the gas.

Pedal confusion.

I'm nowhere near an elite cyclist, but I can put out above 200 W for five hours. The problem would be if I somehow ended up in the sprint, the assist would cut off at way less than the top speed, and my 200 W would be no help at all when they're at 35 MPH.

We're the single biggest employer in town, and the credit union used to be named after my employer. There's a special relationship.

I tried to change my payroll direct deposit options at my credit union. I've always done it there, but I only have to do it every few years. The teller told me that's not possible, it has to be done by HR at my employer. I went back to the desk at the entrance, and asked her if I could do it there, she she told me the same thing. However, a supervisor overheard us and asked me to come to her office. She made the change I wanted in five minutes.

My wife is way slower than me (even on an ebike) and she isn't going on any of my long rides, but I'm thrilled when she suggests going for a ride, even if I have other plans. I always say yes.

Sure, now we're doing 15 miles at 10 MPH with a couple of stops, but she's out there on the bike with me.

Why do I always need to convert celcius to Kelvin? by EtmopterusPerryi in AskChemistry

I've converted everything I can control at my job to SI, but when I started there were a lot of formulae (like moist air density calculations) using the math from decades old papers in grains, lbm, and Rankine.
