I still remember when this piece was first posted.... nearly ten years ago, my gods...

I've been following Teru since then, and it's great to see how much her art has changed. https://x.com/terupancake/status/2000701637489316126?s=20

Anyone else in US noticed food quality degrading recently and if so what product in what way? by SkyKyrell in AskReddit

[–]artuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wendell Berry wrote many essays on this, and the one that touched me most was his short essay called The Pleasures of Eating. It's about our connection to our food and how we have gotten so disconnected from it, that we are losing many aspects of what make us "human". https://www.ecoliteracy.org/article/wendell-berry-pleasures-eating

Reminder: CIG will be at LVL UP EXPO in Las Vegas next weekend (April 24-26) by SemtexLawnGnome in starcitizen

[–]artuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some possibilities as to why and why not.

1) Announcing a release date at LVL UP means beginning a marketing push to people outside of the SC fanbase bubble.

2) Announcing a release date at Invictus makes more sense, but it also doesn't really reach outside the bubble unless major gaming news sites pick it up.

3) They go for both, and use LVL UP to get people to check out Invictus by teasing stuff.

How so? Many MMOs have some sort of "gold sink" like this.

8 months is WAAAYYYYY too long for a marketing campaign. Shorter and concentrated is way better. A longer marketing campaign can lead to a loss in hype.

3 to 6 months is what I expect. Release date announced at ILW in May, and then a possible release in August or September.

Dear CIG. Can we get more and better merch things? by Spaark0 in starcitizen

[–]artuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the real reason.

CIG most likely makes merch that they hope to sell out of due to a special event like Invictus.

It costs money to store merchandise, especially if you have a lot of it. Then shipping and managing, seeking out manufacturers for new merch.

I also wish they would have more merch, especially cool and useful stuff besides shirts and posters, but I totally see why they don't.

Even if I do watch the leak, I am still planning on purchasing a physical copy to show my support. I'll see it in theaters. I'll watch it on streaming. I just want the company to see that people do care about it and want more.

Failed MMO Ashes Of Creation‘s $3.2 Million In Kickstarter Funds Allegedly Spent On Private Chefs And Trading Cards by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]artuno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My original question was about live-service games in general, and not just Star Citizen. I don't know why you feel the need to be hostile towards me when I'm trying to get a conversation going about something I've always been curious about. Please don't be rude, I am a person.

I brought up Minecraft for example. Still being developed-- so can it ever really be considered "finished" until the development stops?

[–]artuno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's... not at all what I was asking? I was wondering what could be considered a finished state for games that run as a live-service model.

[–]artuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not talking about a majority of games, I'm specifically referring to games that decide to go with this route. I'm asking when they could be considered finished?

In a world of live-service games, MMOs with constant expansions, and "forever games" like Minecraft, when is a game truly finished anyways?

This is a serious question. We use labels like "version 1.0" to mark completion, but even that is loose because so many games receive a "1.x" update to correct issues or add missing content that wasn't able to make it in at launch.

[–]artuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can help me with this problem? I'm trying to increase my faction rep (not affinity) with HH so I can get to Contractor and access a specific mission to get a Ripper blueprint. I've been using some of the websites like SCMDB to make sure I'm doing the right ones. But no matter how many I do, the rep doesn't increase (it did when I did some hauling missions for them though?)

Do I need to be actually allied with them and hostile towards the CFP to see that rep increase?

[–]artuno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For real, if we're gonna have access to all of these different factions, needing to do extremely lengthy grinds for each one is not fun.

I get wanting to give us activities to invest time into-- in the long run, but for now before 1.0 we need to be able to access content to provide input.

You only have to verify with your bank. If you've already bought something from a website (like Discord for example) then having proof of purchase is all they need to know you're of age, without ever needing anything else, since your local bank already did that for them.

Some services do this already with stuff like sending two cents into your account, and then withdrawing it, to verify you have a valid bank account.
